Booted from cabin
In Feb 07 my sister and I ( senior citizens) were offered a handicap cabin by the cruise line (which shall remain un-named for the time being) and we accepted and paid $900 dwnpmt. Today a svc rep called the TA and said our reservation had to be changed because a wheelchair person wanted the cabin. We are both Type 1 diabetic,I have severe arthritis,my sister has a heart conditon and a coronary stent and sciatica. We have been offered a regular cabin on the same deck and $100 ship credit. I think we should have been upgraded and given $200 credit. Why is someone allowed to come to the game late and demand that other people be bumped???

Even though you both have significant health problems, if you are not wheelchair dependent, and someone who is needs that cabin, it seems very reasonable for you to give it up. None of your health problems, and I'm sorry you both have so many, really require an accessible cabin.
Trying to navigate a regular cabin in a wheelchair would be very challenging.

People in wheel chairs often can not sail at all unless they are able to get an accessible cabin.
IMO - the cruise line acted appropriately. They didn't need to give you any shipboard credit. Consider yourself lucky to have gotten the shipboard credit.

The law is that if a handicaped person comes along and that cabin is taken by a non-handicapped person(s) the former get the room. we once booked a handicapped room but were told ahead of time that we could be bumped (to a cabin w/i that category or above it) IF a handicapped person needs it. I think the cruise line acted correctly. If they did not do this they could be sued.

Sounds like you would benefit from a cabin in the center of the ship. I went on a Panama Canal cruise and had a cabin in the center and loved it. I was not far from my cabin no matter where I was. You just don't want one at one end or the other. If the virus shows up on the ship they will reccommend you use your own bathroom when at all possible. Other than that you will not be spending much time in the cabin.

Actually, there is one person who did you a dis-service, and that is the person who booked your cruise. It is their obligation to inform you that if a person who is handicapped and needs a barrier free room needs that room...you WILL be bumped. This happens on all lines.
We have been offered these rooms in the past and each time we were informed...right up front of this condition.
So, if you have a concern, you might want to voice it to the travel agent or agency that did not tell you this might happen.
Anyway, have a nice cruise and don't let this event spoil your fun.
