Booking within 24 hour hours of departure
Last week I tried to book a Celebrity Cruise within 24 hours of the cruise's departure. Even though the ship was not full, they would not allow it. My question is why? If cruise lines are struggling, they should not be turning away paying customers who decide they want to book within a few hours of departure. They say security is supposedly of concern yet I can walk up to an airline carrying hundreds of people and I can get on the flight if there are seats. Why can't the cruise lines do the same thing?

I believe it is the start of the new security measures that are going to be implemented starting in January where every passenger has to prove who they are when they book a cruise. Any cruise to anywhere, not just cruising to foreign countries. Date of birth, citizen of what country, city of birth, etc. etc. No one will receive their documents until these forms are mailed or faxed in to the cruise line in advance. There is to be some sort of data-base somewhere that will check all this information before a passenger boards a ship. This will make cruising the safest way to travel.

The guidelines will be published within the next couple of weeks.

Paul

There is no law and I do not know how many cruise lines will participate. I know that the most popular lines will implement. I do not know about lines that sail foreign countries exclusively.

Rather simple for the passenger. Just fill out the immigration form that you will receive in the mail and mail or fax it in before sailing. Documents will be mailed only after the forms are received by the cruise line.

I do not know how this will affect last minute bookings.

Paul
