Booked a "Guarantee" cabin, but now having second thoughts!

We booked on the Sea Princess in the BB (or better) guarantee category. This is an outside balcony cabin in the second highest level for that cabin type. It was explained that we could only get better than BB, not worse. It's even possible that we could be upgraded to a mini-suite. Due to the many derogatory posts on this site, I'm having second thoughts! Please explain the drawbacks of selecting the "guarantee". Thanks!

Lenore let me tell you a secret. You are a troll. When the original poster of a question does not post their legit email address, it is obviously a troll.<BR><BR>No answers for you

No one on this site posts their email address - that's a idiotic remark. <BR><BR>Lenore, what you have said is true. sometimes cabins are assigned when documents are printed, sometimes not until you get to the pier. You are guaranteed nothing less than you've paid for, but it's possible that you could be anywhere a category BB is. It's also possible you could be upgraded. It's the chance you take. Generally guarantees are less expensive, but some people just like going on a guarantee on the off-chance that they may be upgraded. It's up to the individual.<BR><BR>Personally, I like choosing my cabin ahead of time, but that's just my preference. Some people don't care.<BR><BR>Hope that helps<BR>

Well Ben, apparently it's your first time to this board. Otherwise you'd know that A) almost everyone uses a fake e-mail address B) I've posted and answered dozens of questions since I first discovered this forum in January. My question is totally legitimate. Now, if you have anything constructive to add....please do so!

Lenore,<BR>Take a look at the deck plans to see if you would have a problem with the location of any of the BB (or higher) cabins. If not, then go with the guarantee. I book guarantees all the time and have not had a complaint yet. Enjoy the Sea Princess!

Thanks Patty and love2travel. I thought we covered all the possible cabins when we booked, but I'll double check tonight. The agent at Best Price said it's definitely better to go with the guarantee, but then I read all the critical posts and freaked out! I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks!

Lenore, getting an upgrade may or may not happen. You can't depend on it. If you do you may be in a certain section of the ship you may not like such as the very front, back, etc.<BR>I have done it both ways but the last few years I just look the brochure over, decide which cabin I want and book it. I always have a back-up in case my first choice is taken.<BR>But remember-- a cruise is a cruise and there are no really 'bad" cabins, right?

Wavy - When we booked there were 6-8 cabins to choose from (all towards the back of the ship and close to each other), so it really did matter which cabin we picked. Since there is a remote possibility of an upgrade when going the guaranteed route, we decided to try it this time. We figured the worst thing that could happen is we'd get one of the same rooms we had to chose from originally! I started to freak when I saw so many posts about AVOIDING "guarantee" cabins.

Hi Lenore,<BR><BR>Your keyword here is "possible" upgrade to a mini-suite. My advice is to stay with a BB since you may be upgraded to a BA forward which will be under the buffet and darn close to the galley. Unless you get a mini-suite stick with the BB (same size cabin) very high on ship. Forward, as midship as possible.<BR><BR>Remember, if you go with a guarantee and they assign a cabin you can not say "I do not want it."<BR><BR>Paul

Thanks Paul. Our cabin was right under the 24 hour restaurant last cruise and it was a non-issue. I studied the ship layout in the brochure and it appears that all the cabins in category BB or higher will be just fine. Who knows, maybe we'll luck out and get the mini suite. But even if we don't, I know we'll have a great time....we always do!!!
