Best excursion St. John;s Antigua

Cruising with celebrity in April, what excursion would you reccomend for St. John's or just go out on our own?

We went to Antigua on Celebrity a while back and actually did both. We did a shore excursion in the morning that involved going out on a 30 foot rigid bottom inflatable into the mangroves and then to an island for snorkeling. Lots of fun. Then in the afternoon we hired a driver to take us on a tour of the island. Ended up with a German woman from another ship joining us.

St John's on your own is easy. About 2/3rds of the island is a U.S. national park. There is a good information center just west of the town center right on the waterfront. One fun thing that you can't do on just any island is go on a park ranger lead walk (take a taxi to where it starts, $5.00 maybe is all) starting at the top of the island, walk down learning about the flora, fauna and archeology of the island, swim at the bottom and have a boat ride back to town (included with the hike). I think you can find all the details, and would probably need a reservation in advance, on the U.S. national park website. Enjoy planning your trip!

I would highly recommend taking a tour with Lawrence (website:

He is knowledgable, professional and his van is clean and air-conditioned. We went with him 2 years ago and had a lovely time - saw Nelson's Dockyard and other historic sites, took in some great views of the island and went to a nice beach.

After thinking a bit about what the island of St. Johns in the US Virgin Islands could possibly have to do with Antigua, I realized your St. Johns is a town on the island of Antigua. But, if you were going to the USVI, my suggestion would be a good one.
