Wyndham El San Juan - Room Categories?
Hi Everyone!
I really need your help: This coming May my friend and I are staying at the Wyndham El San Juan. We are really psyched but confused about the differences in room. We are going through Liberty Travel and my travel agent convinced me to "upgrade" my room to a Deluxe room b/c I wanted to assure an ocean view room. So, $250 was added to both of our bills for this room. However, when I called the actual hotel to inquire and double check, the lady assured me that Deluxe rooms ONLY have garden views and positively no ocean view b/c those are in the superior rooms in the main tower. Now, I haven't finished paying the entire trip (we have about a month) and I feel bad telling my travel agent that I no longer want the upgrade b/c there won't be any ocean view and I don't want her to be mad at me and give me the crappiest room ever. So, do I have the right to make changes still? And do I have the right to ask for a superior room through her or should I just "demote" my room to a Standard Room and once I get to the actual hotel, upgrade it then, even if there's an additional fee and a chance that I will end up with a city view instead? Lastly, what are the REAL differences in the rooms the offer? Has anyone here stayed in a Standard room? Did you like it?? I am sooo sorry for the long post, but I am truly concerned about this and I am going for my birthday and I want everything to be as perfect as possible. Thanks sooo much for reading this and PLEASE feel free to write me in response to this. Thanks!!

The TA does not make the room assignments. They are made by the hotel. The hotel is rectangular shaped and there is no main tower. The rooms with a straight look onto the ocean are located on the narrow north end of the triangle. I would cancel the upgrade with the TA and check for an upgrade when you arrive. May is not a busy month so changing rooms should not pose a problem. My wife is going in two weeks for 4 days. She has a "Special" room - two Queen beds or a King size bed, a sitting area, city view and a balcony.

Thanks for your response Rob! I have a question though, if the TA does not assign the room, why did she charge us significantly more for a room upgrade? And if I get to upgrade my room when I get to the hotel, is there anything I should say or do to increase my chances on getting an upgrade? And lastly, has anyone stayed on a city view room--I wonder how bad it can actually be??<BR>Thanks again!

The TA tells the hotel that you paid for an upgrade. Again the hotel will assign the room. City view rooms on the east side of the building look out on another building and the airport with mountains in the background. Garden view rooms are on the west side of the building and you also see part of the city and a high rise hotel next door. Rooms facing south look directly at the city. Rooms on the North face the ocean. Had a city view room on the eat side. Since there wasn't much to see I rarely looked out the window. We diod not have a balcony but it was quite a large room.

My husband and I stayed at Wyndham ESJ many years ago. Their standard room is kind of small and he and I shared a Queen size bed. If you and a friend are sharing a bed, it's probably not bad, but if you are having two beds, well, I don't recommend it.
