Where to stay on Family vacation
My family has decided that we would like to take a trip to Jamaica over the Christmas holiday this year. The family consists of my wife, two year old son, mother, and my in-laws (mother, father, and brother in law.) We are looking to stay in safe area that is tourist friendly. We would like to find a family oriented resort that still provides entertainment activities for adults i.e. cocktails, nice beach, and good dining. Any help would be appreciated.

When you say "tourist friendly", what do you mean?
THe main tourist areas of JA are Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. I've been to all 3 several times and they are my least favorite part of hte island...I much prefer the non-tourist areas, the people are very friendly.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive resort, you're mainly limited to those towns, and a few along the north coast.
I'd look into a villa myself, maybe Treasure Beach or on the east coast. Lots of space, privacy, your own pool, etc.

I would suggest any of the "Beaches" hotels. Never stayed there personally but know many people with kids who absolutely loved it. The kids are entertained while you relax...it's an all you can drink bar. It's all inclusive, it's Negril, so it's pretty safe. Plus Negril is a really fun laid back place to hang around in and explore.
One thing to note though...it might be kind of rainy during the Christmas season-"winter season" in Jamaica...

You might want to look into the Ritz Carlton. My husband and I were just there in March. It is very family-oriented, upscale, wonderful food and has a good AI option, which is unusual for a resort of the Ritz' caliber. Also has a good kids program. We stayed in a suite, well worth it for the extra $60 a night (2 bathrooms, 2 terraces and a sofabed in the living room). The beach is not great but the nearby beach club is better.

I've never been, but I almost planned a trip to one of the FDR resorts. (fdrfamilyresort.com) Every room comes with a vacation nanny who will watch the little one whenever you want. I think the continuity of one person helping all week would make a 2-yr-old more comfortable than other programs that are more like a drop-off camp. I had checked it out, and several reviewers said it was fun. It has restaurants, bars, and a beach. There are 2 different ones on Jamaica. You might want to post a message asking if anyone out there has actually been there.
