If you are looking specifically for a diving vacation, check out St. Eustatius.

Top of almost every scuba divers list for an essential place to dive is the Cayman Islands. Try www.divecayman.ky as a starting point, then check forums on scubadiving as a start point.

For diving look into:
Cozumel. It has one of the best reefs in the world.
Bonaire. This is a divers island.
I'm not sure about the DR and diving. From what I have read its more noted for beaches, sun, etc.

Would definitely go to Bonaire. It has superb diving and snorkeling. Water is absolutley the best I have seen in the Caribbean. Very clear. Beaches are for the most part coral, but you can find a few sandy beaches.BOnaire is also less expensive than most places in the Caribbean. Lots of great restaurants.

I was in Cozumel last week and the snorkeling/diving was ruined by the hurricane. I've give it a few years to get the coral back (but go and enjoy the island and support the economy!) Even before the huricane, Bonaire was our favorite (#1Bonaire, #2Cozumel pre-hurricane then #3Belize Cayes #4 Caymans) Booked to Turks & Caicos and Bahamas this summer and hope it will compare to these? Have you been to Ambergris and how does T & C compare?
