Where should we go?

My husband and I have been to St Thomas, St John, Virgin Gorda, Abaco, and the Caymans.
We are debating between Aruba, Barbados and Curacao for our next trip. Barbados will cost us about $1000 more. Is it worth it? Which destination has better beaches?

My husband and I went to Aruba a few years ago and we just booked a trip to Curacao today for September.Aruba was a very nice place to go .We stayed at a lowrise called the Tamarijn with a first floor room and the beach was practically outside our door.If you do decide to go to Aruba make sure you rent a jeep and go to the other side of the island, there's a lot to see over there and it's really fun driving across the rocks(bring plenty of water,it's very hot out there, sunblock too!).Curacao seems like a good time too.I'm looking forward to the Seaquarium and swimming with the sharks.Good luck with your decision.

Been to St. John's, Arbua(2x), St. Thomas, Jamaica(2x), Bahamas(2x), Puerto Rico, Cancun and Play del Carmen and most recently to St. Maarten, Anguilla and Virgin Gorda. I'd recommend St. Marteen as a new destination. Beautiful beaches, nightlight, great food, deluxe and lolos, strong drinks and cheaper than Aruba, relaxing, two cultures and you can travel to Anguilla, Saba or St. Barts for the day. Trying out Antigua in July heard many good things about it on other forums.

The beaches on Aruba are generally better than at the other two, but all have some good ones. However it really depends on what you like to do away from the beach. Not sure why Barbados would cost you $1000 more - it really shouldn't. If anything there are some great places in Barbados that are very reasonable. Personally my choice would be a toss-up between Curacao and Barbados, and then a whole bunch of other places before even considering Aruba. But that's because of the types of activities we like, and the fact that we like to get away from other Americans on vacation (probably shouldn't say that - I can hear the flames now...

Sarah-
Definitely ARUBA!

They have wonderful beaches and the beautiful are very friendly. Plus it is extremely safe and no poverty or beggers!

We stayed on the high rise at the Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. It is very very beautiful and the landscaping is awesome. You will have a terrific time if you choose Aruba.

They have sunset sail cruises, and sunset dinner cruises, snorkeling, 4 wheel tours, jeep tours, horsebackriding, shopping, swimming, swim up pool bars, relaxation. If you go, you must rent a jeep and explore the island. You can do it in one day for sure.

Also, they have a tour that goes to Curacao for about $200.00 a person for the day.

Have fun wherever you choose!

Kris,

The problem we are having with Barbados is mostly getting there. It is $515 a piece to fly from miami compared to $300 and $350 to fly to Curacao and Aruba respectively. The Marriott on Curacao is $119 a night compared to $259 at Glitter Bay. We are also considering the Hyatt on Aruba for $240 a night. What are your thoughts. I love the beach but my husband wants to do other stuff this vacation.

Thanks - Sarah

My husband and I stayed at the Marriott on Curacao for a week in November 2000 and we both loved it. The food and service were excellent and there is pretty good snorkeling right at the hotel. I have not been to Aruba so I cannot compare them. Curacao has many activities for all interests (history, outdoor activities) and lots of great restaurants. You can also book side trips to Klein Curacao, Bonaire and Aruba right at the hotel. I have been to Barbados and I thought it was lovely but I do not know if I would spend $1000 more to go there. There are many nice beaches on Curacao (the one at the Marriott I think is manmade but very pretty) but the beaches on Barbados were also beautiful and I have heard, as others have already said here, that Aruba has amazing beaches. I would be happy to answer any questions but I think you would enjoy any of these destinations.

Wow - $515 from Miami to Barbados? We can fly from Hartford to Barbados for $315 r/t right now on USAir...seems odd. Anyway, how you make your decision is your choice. I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them if you haven't been to these islands, as all are rather different from the ones you have been to. Once you decide then forget about the other options (until the next trip...when you can always go to yet another one). You could also think about some days on Aruba AND some on Curacao on the same trip - the interisland fare might not be too bad. At least take a day trip from one to the other if you pick one of them.
