The is NO comparison between St. Lucia and Grenada. Grenada wins by a mile.

This year he plans to go sailing there with 3 buddies for a week.gt;(<BR>Have never been to Grenada, but highly recommend St. Lucia, Tortola, Providenciales T&amp;C, Grand Cayman, &amp; Aruba.<BR>

I totally agree with Nutmeg--as soon as you set foot on the island , you can smell great things!<BR><BR>Nutmeg, cinnamon, wonderful cocoa, etc.---be sure to bring some back with you. Very cheap there and folks back home will love it as a momento.<BR><BR>St. Lucia smells, too....but not in the nice way.<BR><BR>Have you made the trip yet? Where did you end up going to?

I hate it when people bash one island so dreadfully. Grenada is my favorite and I have been to 13 - I always lose track - but St. Lucia is magestic in many ways... I am sorry that it takes such a beating. I never smelled anything unpleasant, the people were incredibly dignified, the service wonderful and the geography breathtaking...now considering that is St.Lucia and Grenada is my fave... well.... enough said!

i just returned from grenada on saturday night. it was not a challenge for us to get to grenada. we flew direct from philadelphia for $329/person. (there was an e-saver fare on USAirways website). we stayed at Secret Harbour. It was the nicest hotel i have ever stayed at. i wouldn't recommend staying at any of the hotels on grand anse beach. we went there and it was ok, but nothing fabulous. there are much nicer beaches. plus, there were some weirdos following us around on the beach. the view from our hotel was incredible and the room was spotless. we were deciding between Blue Horizons and Secret Harbour. i'm so glad that we chose secret harbour.

I went to LaSource last summer for 5 days. I have to say I was not that impressed with Grenada itself but the resort was great. There is lots to do there and your wife (and you)get a spa treatment every day included in the price. It is not difficult to get to Grenada from NYC but I don't know about Chicago. I also took a tour of the Grenadine islands before Grenada and they were outstanding, so perhaps that is why I was not as impressed. I am dying to go to Turks and Caicos as I hear it is unbelievable. If you go to Grenada check out Lasource or La Luna. We sailed by there and it's the hotspot and where the celebs go. Grenada was less commercial than Caymans, Jamaica, Cozumel (also went on another cruise)and perhaps b/c I was enjoying Lasource so much I didn't really explore the island except for one day with the cruise (nice waterfalls, etc). Take your wife to Kauai!!! I went there after Grenada and can't stop thinking about it since.

Oh, my tix from NYC was around $650. With that price I didn't think Grenada was that worth it but I also don't go to the Caribbean much so I don't have too much to compare it to. Don't go to Carriocou. It was not impressive and was run down. I loved Tobago Keys and the day trip to Mustique-now there's luxury!!!

We went to Grenada a couple years ago and stayed at Spice Island resort. Not sure if its still all inclusive but it was when we were there. I was pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the food they served there. Yum!! Most if not all of it was grown on the island. What I liked most about Grenada was how self sufficient they were with their food. Most every fruit and veggie served there (and the spices) were grown on the island. Their pineapples were to die for! They compared to the great pineapples you get in Hawaii!

We drove up the to falls ourselves and used a guide named Brenda at the bottom of the falls. She took us beyond the known trails and we got to see extra falls that we wouldn't have known were there, had we not had her to guide us. On the way up, she flagged down a local farmer (in the forest) and he brought us some homegrown bananas. It was a really neat hike. We still correspond yearly.

If you do a hike in the rainforest, please make sure you wear bug spray (even in the day)! There were mosquitos and you don't want to risk catching Dengue! Not a problem anywhere else in Grenada, but you should be prepared!

If you're a diver, I have to agree that its just mediocre in Grenada. We're divers but also like top-side activities as well so Grenada is an island we'd go back to! Definitely do that spice factory tour.

If you're still considering St. Lucia I'd check into the crime and how that's going on the island. We wanted to go a few years ago and were scared off by all the press about tourist attacks on the island. We like to go off on our own and time and time again, were told to use common sense and don't venture off by yourselves. Hope its gotten better because we'd love to go there sometime!

I spent my honeymoon in Grenada this past February and I had an good time. The weather was sunny daily with about 85 day/ 75 night temps and a constant trade wind 5-10mph. I would say it is very laid back. Not any real commercialism and at night it was borderline boring. The beach at Rex Grenadian was nice. Grenada is known for diving but I don't really dive. Swimming there is safe but lots of undertow. Very nice warm water. The people are friendly. St. George is quaint and pretty. I did the jungle tour and that was neat. Saw wild monkeys eating bananas, waterfalls etc. The reason my husband and I went was to relax. We had just got married on a cruise the week before and thatwas very busy and exciting. Grenada is not a place to go go go. If you want that go to Aruba. Also, the island has mostly brittish visitors. They are polite and friendly no problem. Do not try to rent a car. Do not expect cheap dining, airfare, cabs etc. Bring lots of sunscreen and have a good time.
