Great comments, so far. It looks like St. John is winning. We have traveled extensively and this place is the best. One problem... it ain't cheap. We have stayed at both the Westin and Caneel. Both were lovely, but pricey. You cannot beat the natural beauty of this island. We also love the restaurants and night life here. Just the right mix. If money is an issue (when isn' t it?) I would also recommend Playa del Carmen. We went with our kids last week. We checked out a hotel called the Riu Palace. It was beautiful and a bargain. I believe a week in August , all inclusive would run about $1500, before air. You cannot beat that in the caribbean. Check out their web site. Good luck and congrats!
I have been to all three places, and it's a tough choice between Jamaica and St. John. Cancun does not apply here.

I just got back from St.John (and the BVI) and it was fabulous. The island is 2/3 national park. It has more spectacular beaches per sq mile, than any island in the caribbean (Anguilla is close). The Caneel Bay Resort is fabulous, with it's 7 beaches on property, and the Westin is also very nice. Also, the BVI and St. Thomas is nearby.

However, when you say Jamaica, you could chose between 5 areas and have a great honeymoon (Negril, Montego Bay, Runaway/Discovery Bay, Ohco Rois, Port Antonio/Blue Mtns. My favorite is Negril. With 7 miles of Jamaicas' best beach, 7 miles of cliffs and tons of culture (food & music). Nergil has many all-inclusives that specialize in honeymoon type vacations like Grand Lido, Sandals, Swept Away and now the Riu Tropical. Any of these resorts give you as much privacy and/or action as you want on a honeymoon.

My choice would be Negril, Jamaica. Why? The choice of AI resorts, non stop flights, more foriegn feel, different foods and music, lovely people and price. However, St. John, Virgin Gorda, Anguilla and Grenada would be extremely nice also.

St John and stay at Caneel. Its the best. You would love it.They have package plans--one called Allure--it includes a 5-course private starlight dinner--private sunset champagne & hors d`oeuvres picnic----sunset cocktail cruise etc. Its worth a check. Good luck.

Hi,
I had a honeymoon on St. John back in '87. Lots has apparantly changed since then, but it was great. We rented a house and a jeep. Explored the island, the snorkeling at Trunk Bay was fabulous. I have noticed alot of talk about new resorts on St. John, but at the time, it was very quiet and the night time offered little, which was great.

My latest honeymoon, we chose Negril after mucho research and info gathering. I have talked with lots of folks who recommend it highly. This time I was searching for an all inclusive w/in a reasonable budget (more than I comfortably can spend, but not astronomical). Jamaica and Negril came up the winner. Obtaining others' personal experiences really helped.

Last of all, your honeymoon will be what you make it. Relax, enjoy and come back sore!

Cancun and St. John both has much more spectacular beaches than Jamaica if that's important to you. There are much more things to do (daylife and nightlife) in Cancun and at better price than St. John or Jamaica. The Cancun jazz festival is in August in downtown-a must see. If you just wanna do nothing and lay back at the resort smoking weed, then Jamica is the place to be.

Cancun -- The only places in the Yucatan worth considering would be simple beach places south of Tulum, Maroma resort and the colonial plantations near Merida. Cancun itself is not the stuff of honeymoon memories.

St.John -- Pleasant, if completely Americanized --
no real sense of island roots/culture;high food prices since everything imported--find a villa on the far end/Coral Bay area if you want to escape the crowds.

Jamaica --Our #1 choice (tho we're entirely biased)-- Recommend you stay OUT of the tourist resortlands of Negril, MoBay and Ocho Rios in favor of really memorable places like Goldeneye, Port Antonio, Strawberry Hill -- see Chris Blackwell's places on islandoutpost.com or our places at jamaicaescapes.com
Virgin Gorda is the best place to stay for a honeymoon--especially at romantic places like Mango Bay Resort. Also like St. Barts --Sereno Hotel, Eden Rock or in a WIMCO rented villa.
For your three choices I think St. John would be nice -- it is beautiful but very quiet. After that I would say Negril Jamaica in an all inclusive--probably Swept Away. After that I would say Super Clubs Grand Lido Sans Souci--great pampering service. Good luck!
