You can always check out Hector's by the sea on Vieques. It has AC. and we enjoyed our stay there last November.

Thanks Owa for topping this. There is so much good stuff in your report.
I appreciate your input re: Palm Cottages and the lack of air throughout the house. We were looking at Casa Ladera too, but the fact that there are three units does bother me a bit. I like the privacy of our own rental. I too was looking and could not find anything in Esperanza. Do you have Sharondi's email address? I would ask her if you could provide it:

Highflyer, Hector's looks nice, but I am looking for a place with a pool if possible.

Maggi, I have not stayed at Palm Cottage, but it seemed that on their web site, AC was just in the bedrooms. When we were at CL, other guests were not a problem. The house we had last January was extremely private, but no pool. We are more beach than pool people.

I sent you an e-mail with Sharon's address. Owa

Thanks Owa and highflyer for your help. Owa, do you remember if the Casa Ladera units were fully air conditioned? I know this sounds "wimpy" but one of our party has a health issue. Did you stay in the main house or the casita. Could you elaborate on your impressions of this rental either here on in private email. Which did you like better Casa Marullo or Casa Ladera and why? How did their locations on the island compare? Was Casa Marullo fully air conditioned as advertised on their website? Was it on a swimming beach? Please ignore this if it's annoying. However, we really appreciate your help and input on this forum.
Cheers, Maggi

Maggie, I don't mind giving my opinion at all.
We had the two bedroom in the upstairs main house atCasa Ladera. Only the bedrooms had AC. Actually one of the units was in the hall, and we found it cooled the living room just fine. The two gals that own the property were very hands on. Both are usually working at the property most days. One in the office and the other doing outside work. We rented our vehicle from them. No problems with anything. There is wireless on the whole property which was greatly appreciated by my vacation working husband. We never did use the pool.

If and when we go back to Vieques, we would rent Casa Marullo again. First, Barbara, the owner, was top notch in all transactions. The property managers were also great with the one or two problems we had. They provide transport to and from the airport to the house. We rented the house vehicle. Second, the house is at the end of the road giving total privacy. There is suppose to be snorkeling straight out from the house, but I couldn't find it. It is called House of Waves" because some days the waves were absolutely beautiful. But they are a ways out, so yes. you can swim.
I couldn't wait for our early morning walks along the beach. CM is completely with AC. Very good AC.

CL is located closer to the business area if that would be your preference. There are private homes directly across from CL. CL is not directly on the beach. There is another rental property between it and the water. If you look at a map, CM is on the side where the ferry docks.

If I can be of anymore help, just ask. Owa

Hi Owa, while I'm waiting to hear from CM on availability I'm also checking into a villa on the same stretch of beach called Las Piedras that has piqued our interest. I talked on the property manager who owns the little one, La Casita del Amor, right down the sand from Las Piedras. On your walks do you recall seeing these homes? He said the beach near Las Piedras is where he sends his guests to swim. Did you walk into Bravos de Boston and what was your impression of it? Any restaurants nearby?

Thanks again Owa,
Maggi

Maggi, This is tooooo funny. I am just positive I know both rentals. The big one with pool does indeed look very interesting. It was not very far down the beach from us. We were told that there was snorkeling by those rocks. Is there AC, or doesn't it matter. Same price as CM. There should be an availability calendar for CM on line. I'm confused. How many bedrooms do you need, because you are looking at one to three bedrooms.

I spoke to one of the owners of the one bedroom house, and he showed me around to the back. I was walking and he was reading on the porch. The water is steps away. I did not see the inside. CM has a wall around the property with the beach on the other side.

One other note. CM has security. I would not want to be without it.

Anything else? Owa

PS. I leave for Chicago with the grandchildren so if you have further questions, and I don't answer, that is why. It is going to be very cold!

We need two bedrooms for sure, but could use an extra in case another couple decides to join us. I think you talked to the owner of La Casita del Amor, the cute little cottage. He manages Las Piedras for the owner. I had a long chat with him and he said the ocean breezes cool the whole house sufficiently not to need the A/C. I guess two out of three ain't bad (pool, A/C, beachfront). I'm going to keep my fingers crossed he's right, cause I think we are going with this one. Regarding security, do you mean alarm system? Why would you feel unsafe without it?

I feel bad for you, weather-wise, Owa. I have friends in Chicago this weekend too and I've been following the forecast. Hopefully all your planned outings are indoors. If you haven't left yet I hear there are sleepovers for kids with Sue, the T-Rex at the Field Museum this weekend. Have you been to Chicago before? Are you going to see a show? Let me know if you want any suggestions and have a great time.
