I suppose it depends on your personal preferences and the conditions on any given day.
While we enjoyed the drinks, the monkeys, the view of Nevis, and the pig at Turtle Beach, we didn't like the beach itself. There was a lot of seaweed, the beach was very narrow, and if even half of the chairs had been filled it would have been very crowded indeed. On the plus side, chairs were free with a drink and there were some places with shade on the beach so that umbrellas were no needed.
South Frigate Bay had a prettier beach, better snorkeling, and a large selection of beach bars, and for this reason we would give the slight nod over Turtle Beach. However, when we were on St. Kitts, there were cruise ships in town every day and they made South Frigate Bay seem very crowded to us. Far more crowded than what we prefer. Chairs & umbrellas were set up cheek by jowl and it was US $10 to rent them for the day.
To avoid crowds, our favorite beaches ended up being Cockleshell Bay and South Friars Bay. If you don't mind crowds, either of the places you inquired about would be fine.

Most cruise ship clients go to South Frigate Bay and hang out at Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack www.mrxshiggidyshack.com or Turtle Beach. www.turtlebeach1.com
The seawood at Turtle Beach has never bothered me and I love the view. Love their mango coladas! Beautiful view, delicious food and great service.
South Frigate Bay is a nice beach to walk on, rent jet skis, visit the various beach bars, lime with the locals.
There is also a water taxi from Port Zante to Mr. X's.
Another beautiful beach is Cockleshell. Visit Lion's Beach Bar for his famous Lion punch, delicious food and friendly personality. You'll experience the "real caribbean".

You can contact Thenford Grey a local taxi driver/tour guide at [email protected] for exact prices and a drive to the various beaches.
We used him in December and he was excellent.

skbfan - thanks - I have been in contact with Thenford but we aren't interested in seeing historical stuff (sorry guess we are just 50-60 something beach bums) and that's what he suggested and then to a beach - did he take you to on a tour of the island or just to a few beaches.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
