Cap Juluca in May
My wife and I are staying at CJ the week of May 18, 2007. Generally speaking I've heard positive reviews of CJ...interspersed with the occasional negative. I just read that CJ is in the midst of being sold and I'm concerned that the service/accommodations will slip in the process. Has anyone been there recently (November/December) who can share their experiences -- good or bad. Thanks so much (and Happy New Year!!).

If you are concerned, you should also take a look at Cuisinart or Malliouhana. Or you could try Jumby Bay in Antigua, which has just finished a very major renovation and is once again in the upper tier of Caribbean resorts.

I was at Cap Juluca in November and everything was great. Some updating had been done to some of the units, the manager seemed to have everything going smoothly, and Pimm's was the best I can remember. It was my 10th time to Cap Juluca and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

After reviewing some of the posts (here and elsewhere) over the last few weeks regarding the current situation at CJ, I canceled my rez at CJ and made a new rez at CA. I know that CA has it's faults (many kids for one thing) but I'd rather go with a resort that is a known commodity w/happy employees. As I understand it, the current ownership limbo at CJ is impacting the staff morale and investment in the property. I'm sure it will recover but I'll wait until the next time to pay them a visit. Better safe than sorry...particularly when you're dropping a load of cash!

Cap Juluca's staff are wonderful. How sad you cancelled your reservations. I was just on the island in early December. The beach looked wonderful, Pimms was outstanding and the staff were great.
Don't let the ownership affect your stay- but you already changed your plans. I can understand your concern-but not at this time. Anyhow
Cuisinart should work out fine for you.
It is a lovley hotel.

I stayed at CA and CJ right before Thanksgiving. I think the staff issue is a real one...at CA they seemed much friendlier. The grounds/sailboats/beach also did not seem any where near as well maintained at CJ. I know people on Fodors are more pro-CJ than CA but the opposite is the case on tripadvisor.
I noticed something at CA regarding kids. There weren't any kids at the resort until about 3 days out from Thanksgiving. Then the pool area was full of about 8-12 kids. My bet is that during a holiday or school vacation period the resort will have some kids but if you are there when there aren't school breaks it will be different. It was for me.
Pimm's does get the nod for a romantic dinner but I thought the food was average at both and when there are so many other great restuarants in the island I wouldn't eat too much at the resorts.
