Are you talking about the treasure island resort in Grand Cayman? If so, I would not reccommend this "motel".
It's pretty run down and the beach is very rocky out front. The place is not clean at all and the staff is not very friendly. It's a budget hotel. The location is nice but that's about all. Keep looking around Grand Cayman and you can find great places to stay with charm. Believe me, dont waste your vacation on this place.

We stayed in the condos not the hotel and had a nice visit. I thought the beach was nice. It was sandy until the water was a few feet deep then there was lots of fish to look at so the rocks weren't a bother.

I don't recommend this hotel either. There are some very nice, moderately priced condos/hotels north on 7MB. Treasure Island is "tacky."

Has fully recovered from past neglect. This five-story hotel wraps around its main pool and waterfall, and the second pool is close by. A circular drive swings up to the huge open-air lobby, which is cool, bright, and busy. Tones of lavender, teal, and coral give a lighthearted look, but exhaust fumes from idling cars often fill the space. Continental breakfast is served in the lobby and in the restaurant, lunch is served poolside, and dinner is in the impressive restaurant three stories up. At all times, folks gather round the bar between the lobby and the pool. A steel drummer alternates with a steel band, which performs nightly except Sun. An arcade of shops, including a delicatessen and a tour operation, line the passage to the parking area. For divers, Bob Soto's Scuba Sensations has opened here. A tennis court supplements the volleyball court on the tree-dotted beach, and two whirlpools provide good soaks. Children wade in their own pool, while a swim-up bar attracts adults. The coral-laden beach can be rough on the feet, but the snorkeling is superb. Recently renovated, the spacious guest rooms have decor in tropical pastels, tile floors, sitting areas, TVs, phones, refrigerators, safes, combination baths, and balconies. Though lacking views, this hotel attracts groups largely with the variety of what it has to offer indoors. This is a resort for those who love to be a part of the crowd. Only rated as a three star property.

Is there still a sandy beach to relax on or is it all rocky?

The above poster sounds like they might work for the resort. The place is not like they describe. The beach is rocky out front and the place is run down.
This hotel is NOT worth it. Do your research and be glad you are not staying at TI.

Sorry folks, but I happen to disagree about several negative claims on TI.

My wife & I stayed there back in 2001 for 10 days, and had a great trip.

Is the hotel a 5 star property?...No.
Is is a comfortable hotel, with decent, clean rooms?...Yes. The rooms are basic, comparable to a Holiday Inn state-side. The pools are excellent, and you have 3 to choose from, two of which have waterfalls, and one has the swim-up bar. The grounds were kept very nice, and the whole place had a nice tropical feel, hardly tacky in my opinion, and definitely not dirty. For those who claim this place dirty, must of been on their first trip to the caribbean.
The beach is something that gets a lot of negative reviews. Here's the truth: The beach is in fact rocky, but only as you are entering the water. There is a good size section of soft sand above the water, with plenty of places to relax in the sun. Although the entry has rocks/coral, it is do-able. I wouldn't call this an ideal swimming area, because it's not. What makes this a great area, is the reef out front for snorkeling. If you simply take it slow entering the water, you'll be fine, put your fins on, and go. The reef is about 75 yards offshore, and is teaming with fish....a must do.

Again, I'm not claiming that TI is luxury, it's not. But it is a moderate priced resort, with comfortable rooms in a central location. It offers all watersports on-site, and it's within walking distance to town. If you are on a tight budget, it is a great place to start. We hardly spend anytime in our rooms anyway, so basic is all we needed. TI is for the active vacationer, who also likes to get out from the resort, and explore as well. The reason people give it bad reviews is because they go there for the first time with high expectations of a Ritz type resort, and get all bent out of shape when they find a medium-range hotel. Instaed of making the best of their vacations, these same folks can't wait to complain, because they failed to do their research first. If you want the Ritz, this is not the place.

Have to agree with Ted. TI is great. We just stayed there for the second time this May. We stay in the condos, and they have been totally renovated. Property is very well taken care of. Janitor was constantly walking around scooping up leaves from the pool surface. And pools are great - can't beat sitting at the swim up bar with a burger and beer. Heaven! Beach is sand but closer to water gets rocky. But if you just walk a bit north, it turns into the pure white sand all the way into the water. Snorkeling was not as great as our first trip because of Hurricane Michelle, but still can't beat just walking from your room to the beach to snorkel. Great location - US$1.50 for the bus (van) into town. Nice restaurant (Hooks) at front of property - pretty decent pizza considering its Cayman! I would not hesitate to stay at TI again.

Felicia, My husband and I stayed there 4 years ago and going back in March. It is a very nice condo. Most are ocean view and some are right on the beach. 1st time was in May - very quiet. Nicely furnished and large screened lanis. Pool area is great. ask for 1st foor unit - easier to get to beach & pool. Try their website grandviewcondos.com Also you have signing privileges next door at TI - just bring a credit card the 1st time you go.

Lisa

I just returned from the Treasure Island Condos and loved it. Our condo was spacious - we were steps away from the pool and a few steps further away from the beach. We snorkeled at the beach right from the hotel - it was great!
