Toronto to Caribbean

Hello,
Just wondering if any fellow Canadians have ever just gone to airport and booked a flight really last minute. Two years ago we went to Turks and Caicos and paid over $900 each. When we got to airport we found out the flight was no way near full and we could have bought the tickets dirt cheap. Has anyone done anything like this before. Please any info would be great. We are finding that air only is really expensive and when u pay and arm and leg only to stretch out on a vacant plane its very annoying. thanks
Luisa

Hi , I have done this a few times , 2 for costa rica and also for venezuela , usually the charters which fly south keep putting the price down closer to departure time . We would call every few days to see how many seats were left and also the cost . When things started to look a little full we would book . We always go air only , and usually use an agent but with the net and going out of To. you could check all around on the net , or keep checking the different charters that fly to where you want to go . Hi Willem,
Thanks for the response. Sounds good and all however, we were thinking of just showing up at airport and seeing what was available. We figure either on the friday or sat there would have to be something. Do you have any experience with this? Also, what time of year would you fly out? We are going in june so not a really popular time. With all the new airport rules I just wonder if we could do this? Please any help would be great! thanks
Luisa

I do not know if that would work as well , you could end up paying top price , like a last minute buisness traveller always pays a ton . Best start calling around different airlines and charters about 2 or 3 weeks in advance to see if the sell offs have started . I really believe you will pay full fare just showing up at the airport . Well, when we stood there the lady gave us the impression that we would get a deal if we had just bought them there. But I totally see your point with business travellers. Gosh everytime we do the last minute calling like u suggested they also full pop us saying well u better hurry it's going to sell out. So, I have no idea what to do. I guess your advice will be taken and hopefully it works. thanks

Hi Do not totally go by what I say , try giving a call to a local agent , she can look at the charter flights which usually have a few aironly seats put aside above the all inclusive ones , make some calls . Good luck and let us know . P.S. My brother flys to cuba every March on last minute deals , A.I. though . Out of P>E>I>, he just keeps calling until he likes the price and he is comfortable with the amount of seats left . Faith
