Thoughts on Swept Away?

Hello,
I have booked a vacation to Couples Swept Away for Sept 26-Oct 2. I am wondering if the food there is better than at Couples Negril? Also, does anyone know if TVs/CD players can be requested??

Hi,

We have been to both Couples Negril and SA. Food is great at both. SA has a gourmet restaurant called Feathers - suggest reservations in advance to ensure you enjoy it a few times.

No TVs at SA - there are CD players in the rooms. There is so much to do in Negril and SA is so beautiful at night that watching TV would be a tragedy.

We were at SA last year at exactly the same time you are going this year. Our first two days - we had monsoon rains from hurricane Lily. But, it cleared and was perfect for 8 days straight with a short shower in the afternoon.

Sign up for the catamaran cruise when you arrive - it goes out Wednesday and one more night.

You will enjoy the resort.

There is a TV in the upstairs library room at Swept Away and one at the sports bar but none in the rooms. We were there during 9/11/01 and of course everyone was glued to the TVs, but before 9/11 the TV room was often empty and you could go there and watch whatever you wanted. John is right - you probably won't feel like watching TV at SA because once you're there, you sort of go to a different dimension of utter tranquility and won't need TV for zoning out.

Oh - you asked about food. At SA, very healthy, fresh, huge abundance and variety. Can't imagine anyone complaining about "too rich" unless all they did was pig out at the dessert bar. There are plenty of salads, vegetarian dishes, fresh fish, jerk port & chicken, an outdoor grill, a veggie bar where you can get custom made smoothies & sush rolls during the day, always loads of fresh fruit and lots of local dishes full of veggies, herbs, & spices. The lunches are buffets and for me were the highlight of the trip. The emphasis at SA is on healthy food. I ate a huge amount of food but we spent all morning exercising, so even though we laid on the beach for the rest of every day, I didn't gain a pound.

There is no possible way you could regret staying at Swept Away. The previous posters are correct....didn't miss the tv at all. Lovely resort, great food, gorgeous beach, friendly, helpful staff.

Swept Away is unique and wonderful. If you need a TV to be happy, don't go there. They will provide CD players.

The food is healthy and wonderful and the place is really special.

Great thanks to all who posted such reassuring messages! It's no so much me who feels like I need TV, it's my husband! The food sounds wonderful though, and I am very excited about the trip.

Hi. My fiance and I are also deciding between CN and SA for a wedding/ honeymoon. Any more thoughts to the pros and cons of each? Does SA have a nude beach or allow women to be topless? Thanks!

Have been to Swept Away twice and loved it. When I was there, there was no nude sunbathing but plenty of topless.

Have now been to both Swept Away and Couples Negril.

Swept Away (to me) was a bit more romantic and I remain glad we honeymooned there. It is a more quiet, lush and, well, just a more romantic atmosphere. Wonderful, private verandahs off the room. There indeed is topless on the beach and the beach is more beautiful.

CN was a more active place, younger crowd (over all) has a great beach (and also has a nude beach) good air conditioning, tv in the room, more food choices. The grounds are romantic, tropical...just not quite as intimate as SA. Women went topless on the regular beach and less frequently at the pool. The pool at CN kills the pool at SA. The swim-up bar was very cool.

Cannot go wrong at either place...I promise

We have been to both Swept and CN.

I agree above that CN is a bit more active. You can do all activities at both places - water sports, SCUBA, Catamaran cruise to the cliffs, outing to Rick's etc.

We had a great time at both places with different couples. Lots of interesting guests at both.

Food at both is similar - Swept caters more to the healthy individual - lots of chicken, fish - very tasty. Both have nights with buffet and a la carte. Both have gourmet restaurant options - Feathers at Swept was very romantic and very good.

We did not use the pool at either resort. CN has a nice pool with swim up bar. Swept has a small pool beachside and a large 7 lane lap pool in the fitness centre. Because the beaches were so fantastic - we had no interest in the pools - the water in the ocean is 85 degrees and very inviting.

Fitness facilities at CN are not adequate. Facilities at Swept are fantastic - they have very capable trainers too - and 10 tennis courts.

I agree Swept is more romantic. It is beautiful at night - lush tropical foliage, a spectacular open air dining area and all of this lit up.

You will enjoy either place.
