Things to take...
We were wondering if there are any items that we could take to give out to children and the locals that are in short supply or expensive in the Dominican Republic. Also, what sort of currency? US dollars? And if so, should we take it or exchange it there?
Thanks!
Thanks!

hi senji, how kind of you to do this. how about books (not thinking harry potter but the smaller paperbacks they offer at school book sales and at bookstores too), or a soccer ball w/pump. pens, pencils, crayons and notebooks. maybe little sandals or sneakers. t-shirts. chocolate bars. toothbrushes. bandaids. take some instant photos and give them to them. mini toys like matchbox or those teeny dolls.... enjoy the smiles.

We bring nylons, socks (childrens, mens and ladies) toothbrushes, body soaps, bubble bath, bands and things for girl's hair, deoderants, keychains (anything with US or Canadian emblems on them are well liked), hats, sandals and t-shirts.
We bring school supplies to every island we go to - paper, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, markers etc.
We always took US dollars to the DR.
Really nice of you to do this - they have so little in terms of "things" compared to us.
Have a great time.

If you want fun things for the kids go to www.orientaltrading.com very reasonable. We purchased several items and took them to Jamaica, the kids loved them...Bubbles,stickers,puzzles, coloring books, small games, etc.
