I considered staying there but read so many bad reviews that I elected to stay at Gallows Point instead. Not as resorty, and much smaller, but a gorgeous property.

For some good info and great input and reviews, check out usvi-on-line.com and tripadvisor.com

We took the ferry from St. Thomas to St. john and visited the Westin. Very impressive grounds, lobby and pool area. I'd stay there!

Stayed there in April of 2002 and LOVED it and I'm a lodging snob. The beach wasn't as grand as others on the island (we never even spent time on it) but the grounds, pool and room (poolview) were wonderful. It has become my favorite island and I am considering a timeshare purchase there I love it so much. Gallows point is nice - but not kid friendly if you are bringing any along for the adventure.

very family friendly. if you want to view the rooms and grounds, go to www.travelhop.com. Beautifully manicured property but if it's upscale you want, head to Caneel beachfront. Westin has the hotel feel but since Caneel's accomodations are grouped in seperate areas, some beachfront, it seems like a smaller resort. Beach is manmade at the Westin and you can usually do very well with prices there since they always seem to have some sort of special but you will want to travel to the other beaches unless you enjoy pools! You might want to try some of the b&b (Estate Lindholm) which come highly recommended. Few beachfront accomodations available on St. John but there are options with a few condo properties to choose from and the villas which usually have great views and a private hot tub/pool setup but no resort amenities. Check construction near Gallows if you are considering it. usvi-on-line and vinow are both good sites for information.
