St. Martin Weather July 28-Aug 6 2010
I have a trip scheduled for St. Martin July 28- Aug. 1. I am concerned about the extended weather forecast. It's basically showers or scattered showers with chance of rain 30%-60% for the whole week. I'm fine with some showers here and there, but am hoping we'll have some sun as well.
Also, we're suppose to take the ferry to Anguilla Aug. 1. Will the current weather greatly impact the ferry trip? We'll be returning on the ferry to take an afternoon flight home Aug. 6th.
I greatly appreciate any input.
Thanks....

You have mainly a 30% chance of precipitation this coming week - which is pretty normal for this time of year, so you will certainly get sun as well.
It will frequently rain heavilly for a while very early in the morning (as it just has) but most likely before you are out of bed.
When it rains during the day, it can be heavy, but very localized - raining on one place and dry half a mile away !
If it looks ominous when you board the ferry to / from Anguilla, settle in the covered area - unless you don't mind possibly getting wet on the short trip !
You will certainly get SOME rain while you are here - after all it is 'out of season', and that is what keeps the island so green - but you should have adequate sun as well.
Don't worry - just enjoy the experience.

F.Y.I. It rained heavilly at around 4.30 this morning, however the weather today, all day, has been beautiful, 85 degrees, with a nice breze, and sunshine - despite the forecast saying 30% chance of precipitation.
Unless we get a hurricane you should be OK !

Thank you very much for the update. It looks like the weather report is improving!
We will be arriving into SXM late.. at 8pm. We'll be taking a taxi to the Radisson. I'm sure we'll be hungry. Other than eating at the hotel, are there any other casual food options that would be open when we arrive around 9pm or so? Or is there anywhere that we'd want to try to have the taxi driver stop so we could pick up some along the way?
Thanks

Hi Valverde.
There are multiple options among the excellent restaurants on Grand Case Boulevard (by no means cheap) - and also the much less expensive LoLos in the same street - but you will need a taxi or a rental car (on your first foray into the outside world, I would definitely suggest the latter, even if you have a rental car which is safely to bed in the hotel parking lot) !
Personally, I always prefer to at least drop off my luggage at my hotel - even if I don't unpack it - and THEN go out to eat.
In the area where you will be staying, there are far less dining possibilities - but maybe on your first evening on the island you should try the (expensive) Radisson dining facilities, or take a quick look at the extremely limited options in the area around the hotel.
Anyway, I am sure you won't starve !

Thanks for the info. Yes, I can't wait to explore Grand Case! We'll have a car starting the next morning. Is there anywhere between the airport and the Radisson that we'd be able to run into and grab something to take with us to go? Are the restaurants around Anse Marcel walking distance from the Radisson? Do you think they'd be open at 9:30pm or 10:00pm.
You're a wealth of information!

Hi Valverde
This is probably too late to be of much use to you, but I have only just got home !
I assume that if you will not have a car tomorrow, you will probably be taking a cab from the airport ($30 plus tip!) - so why not rent a car immediately on your arrival ?
The 'take away' optioms on the French side of the island are not great - the Dutch side has the usual KFCs, Dominos Pizza and Burger Kings, if you can stomach that sort of thing.
Frankly I really don't know where you should ask the cab driver to stop if you want to grab something on the way to the Radisson.
As far as the eateries in Anse Marcel are concerned (there isn't a lot of choice anyway) I suspect that they may well have called it a day by the time you arrive.
Even the restaurants in Grand Case will not be looking for hungry tourists late in the evening - but you might get lucky - I reckon it is probably room service in the hotel, unless you rent a car and stop somewhere on the way to Anse Marcel.
Sorry not to be more encouraging - but at least the weather is beautiful - just another bloody day in paradise !
