st john condo

Has anyone ever stayed at a condo in Pastory Estates just outside of Cruz Bay, St. John, called Coral and Blue? It is one of our top choices for our stay in March and I wondered if someone could give me some input.

Thank you

Let me know if you get any hits on the question... I was looking at the same place for a "girls" vacation in Jan 2009. Is it on
vrbo #37974?? If you do decide to stay there could you let me know what you think???

Thanks

My wife & I and another couple looked at a unit for sale in Pastory Estates. We hated it and wouldn't buy or stay there. It's not as great a location as it seems. We've been to St. John 14 times since 1999 and always feel safe. Having said that we didn't feel like this was the safest place to be on the island. Just MHO.

Julie,
We are booked for Coral and Blue in March. Pulley has me worried now, but I guess we'll find out when we get there! I will let you know how it is. We will be home by the end of March which should give you plenty of time to make your decision.

Thanks Jeanne, I look forward to hearing about your trip. I agree after reading that post I am now thinking about palm breeze condo at Battery Hill, but it is quite a bit more, so I would really appreciate your opinion.

Pully, are you looking to buy on St. John? Just curious as we often think about buying a condo or small house there, but prices are very high.

Jeanne: I just hate to see anyone nervous about a rental selection so I wanted to give you as much info. as I have on Coral and Blue. It's part of a condo. complex which is about 7 or 8 years old. I remember when we first looked at STJ that there were units still available. The complex is modest by STJ standards but perfectly adequate for a vacation spot. Besides, IMO, the point of going to a place like STJ is to enjoy the great outdoors. It isn't luxurious as some, but as long as it has airconditioning in the bedroom, you'll be fine. It is a bit of a hike at night into and from town, so you may just want to pay a taxi the few bucks for the ride back. But I sense your biggest concern is the neighborhood. It is not the best neighborhood but it is also not particularly dangerous. There are working families in the area, and that means kids and teenagers. IMO, if you don't wander around the neighborhood at night, you shouldn't have any problems. Take the usual safety precautions you would anywhere you go i.e. lock doors, turn on exterior lights at night, keep your valuables stashed out of sight, then you shouldn't have any problems. There are some posts regarding these condos on tripadvisor which might also give you a better idea of the situation. On this forum and others, there has been a lot of discussion regarding tourist safety and as it's been pointed out before, nowhere is 100% safe 100% of the time. Just keep your wits about you and have a great time!

Tuxedo cat,
Thanks for your input. It puts my mind at rest. We have stayed in Eluthera and Vieques in areas that sound similar with no problem. We enjoy being off the beaten path and "living like the locals" as they say in a neighborhood. I have read many of your posts and I appreciate the advise of someone with your experience. Any other words of wisdom from someone who's been there, done that?

Julie,
We just returned from our trip to STT and my recommendation would be to look elsewhere for a condo.

Jeannie, I'm sorry but not surprised, that you were not happy at Coral & Blue. I hope you go back to St. John as it is a great place with many much better locations to stay at.

Mike

Julie, where are you and "the girls" staying??
