well, well, well
having just read the posts here, I wonder what kind of folks you all are. BBoards like this one are for the benefit of the reader, not have personal opinionated washing of ones underware! Period!
Now to the subject of crime, yes we have to uch of it! And paradise should not have any! The facts are that 95% of the crimes here are just like in your town, The other 5% unfortunatly are directed thoward the visitor. We would like to see more police presents on our streets, but just like in your town we are short staffed. Most of our problems are caused by our poor ecconomy, there is a job shortage and some of our inhabitants feel that stealing and braking in is the way to make a living, add to that the opportunity thiefes and muggers and the picture looks not so paradisy....but! Great weather, friendly people, outstanding diving, excelent sailing, a rainforest, fungi and kallalloo, beer drinking pigs, an average hotel room rate of about $85, restaurants with food from local lobster to wienerschnitzel, baba ganosh to KC style BBQ. So if you like to get a great tan, learn about Mucko Jumbies or any thing else about the VI great past go and book yourself a great vacation. We the 99.99% of residents who do not engage in crime will make sure you'll be back year after year. And oh yeah if you want the real McKoy you can call me 340 773 5762 just ask for me.

I'm sorry but when the headline on the front page warns tourists I take notice! You can all say what you want, but the bottom line is you are making it a trivialization. Why oh why must most people defend crime! Its absurd! Tourists are being robbed at gunpoint for gods sake! To say that CHANCES are it is isolated and wont happen to you is asinine. I will NOT plan a vacation here and call me what you want, but don't say I'm over reacting!! These things don't happen at near this magnitude as say in Bermuda, and as far as the tired and used statement goes that crime is prevaliant in other locations, I REALIZE that and am AWARE of that! When I read the warnings by the LOCAL officials I AM CONCERNED!! Don't tell me I may be a victim of a crime in a TOURIST area because of the poor economy!

Have read all these posts, and have a question. Is St. John included in all these concerns? I read St. Thomas and St. Croix, but no mention of St. John. I am considering a trip there next spring and would like to know about safety. Thank you very much.

It is widely agreed that St. John has significantly less crime than St. Thomas and St. Croix.

However, it is not crime-free. There was recently an armed robbery at a restaurant there. Numerous villa break-ins have also been reported.

Generally, crime is much less of a concern on STJ than the other USVI.
