Sapphire Beach Resort
Has anyone visited lately to see if the bars and restaurants have actually opened? Have any upgrades/respairs been done? It used to be such a wonderful place but had become so run-down after the amentities closed.
Thanks!

The status of restaurants and bars at this resort has been in flux, and around Thanksgiving there was only one bar and a restaurant open, but I believe that the situation has now possibly changed. I've asked someone in St. Thomas to check this out so we can get a clear answer. I'll report back as soon as I have something to say, but I'd welcome some reports by other Fodorites. This, too, was a very nice resort about 6 years ago, and I'd like to be able to know if if it's back on track.

Did you hear anything about Sapphire Beach? Would you recommend a few hours there as a relaxing excursion from a cruise? we're only in St. Thomas for a day and I hated time in the shopping district last trip there. It was so hot, crowded and full of rip off artists. You can tell I'm not much of a shopper, more of a surfer and like to immerse myself in the island life.

Its a beautiful beach worthy of a day off a cruise ship. The views to the east are spectacular with JVD, STJ and Tortola. The Sunday beach parties were fantastic back in the early 90's. Many of a Painkiller consumed at the beach bar there. I hope they get it restored to its earlier glory.
