San Juan on Christmas Day

We will be arriving in San Juan mid-afternoon on Christmas Day for a six night Puerto Rico vacation. Will there be anything at all to do on Christmas Day? I mean, other than the beach -- a restaurant for dinner, a bar?

I know San Juan is a resort community, so things are probably different, but we have visited some places on Christmas Day and been stuck with a Chinese restaurant and a movie. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If Christmas Day is anything like Good Friday in San Juan, it will be very quiet.

Rich, You will have a great time in PR even on Christmast day. Although usually Puertoriquenos visit their family on Christams day and it is kind of slow. This year is a Saturday and PRicans love to party on Saturdays, so if you stay at a good hotel you will have a lot of fun and definitetly some "Lechon y arroz con gandules" (Rosted Pork with Rice with gree pigeon). As soon as you get to the hotel as the concierge or better yet, the guys at the bar, donde es la Fiesta tonight? They will be able to tell you where to go. If you tell me a little more about yourself and your group and where you staying, I might be able to give more specific information. But trust me, you will not be having no Chineese food on a Saturday Christmas Day in PR. And Christmas day and Good Friday are totally differents day for PRicans! Have Fun, Sosa

Thanks, Sosa!! I wasn't really looking for lots of activities to do that day -- I just wanted to make sure the town would not be totally dead for that one day. We are staying at the Sheraton casino in Old San Juan, only because we got a decent price. Just two of us. And we are looking forward to having an EXCELLENT time.

If it's not too personal, what rate did you get for the Sheraton? We just returned from staying there and I could swear they charged us more than we agreed upon. I could be wrong, but I thought it was pre-pay and pay for one night and the second is half off. The staff at that hotel is wonderful! Made friends with George at the front desk and he greeted us everyday by name, kinda makes you feel at home!

It is not personal! I tried Priceline for $100 a night, and the Sheraton is what came up, so that's what we got.

Wow, what a deal! We averaged 159.00 a night. They have a small but nice rooftop pool and hot tub. The views are nice and it was hardly used when we were there. We kept wine in our room so we just filled our glasses and went up. It good in the hot tub after a day of sightseeing. Have fun! BTW, find Marshalls and you will find the grocery store we purchased our wine in. The prices are better than CVS which is just a block from your hotel...yep, we always find the wine! And there is a Subway close if you want a cheap breakfast.....

Thanks, cd! We are very much looking forward to it. We are staying six nights. The forecast shows rain, so we hope it isn't much. Wine on the rooftop sounds great.

Sorry, just saw this! It was great, although it was cloudy every day, and it rained the day we went to the rain forest. But all in all a great place to visit. The biobay way a lot of fun. We were happy we stayed in Old San Juan rather than Convento, because there was so much stuff to do -- so many great restaurants and bars.
