San Juan advice please
Looking forward to two nights in San Juan at the Sheraton Old San Juan before Vieques. Are there restaurants in walking distance of Sheraton for our arrival night? Also, we are planning on walking and using the free trolley the next day. Does anyone have tips on what not to miss? Will be traveling with three teenagers. Thanks!

You can walk into Old San Juan from the Sheraton - plenty of restaurants there:
In OSJ check out:
El Morro and San Cristobel forts
cathedral
governors mansion + gardens
several museums
several squares
san juan gate
christ chapel
paseo la princesa
you could also consider a segway tour, carriage ride or maybe see OSJ from the sea on a jet ski
more ideas + a travel map at my travel blog www.visit-the-coqui.com
enjoy

Thanks for the info!
Coqui, I have already been enjoying your website!
Is there a guide map that I could obtain to know where to walk and what we are looking at so that we do not just wander aimlessly?
Also, what would be a good place for a very casual (tshirts, shorts) place to eat great Puerto Rican food?

El Jiberito (on Calle Sol) is casual and has excellent "local" food.
As far as walking around in the city ... You can stop by la Casita to pick up a free map.
We've put together this map -- http://tinyurl.com/4tflzd -- that should get you started.
We've also written a self-guided walking tour that will take you past many of the highlights of Old San Juan. You can find that in our travel guide at http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/20...alking-tour-1/
Hope this helps.

Eat at Carlies the night of arrival. His restaurant is in the bottom of the Banco Popular building, very close to your hotel. Its excellent! I recommend the Lobster Ravioli. Yum! Have fun. I love Old San Juan.
The are many restaurants near the hotel, but there are several which are NOT good as they cater to tourists.

Carlies is in the Banco Popular building, near the cruise ship piers in Old San Juan.
The Intercontinental is in Isla Verde, near the airport.
Carlies and the Intercontinental are not "near" each other.
They are about a $19 taxi ride apart from each other.

This website has podcast walking tour info. You can download video and audio or just audio to an iPod. Or just enjoy seeing the highlights on your computer before you leave home.

Here's the tourist map of OSJ. I had scanned it in and made it into a pdf file a couple of years ago. I think it's still relatively accurate.
