Rum?

Does anyone know if Wray and Nephew Jamaican Overproof rum can be purchased in USVI or BVI? Thanks Dave

A. H. Riise has a large liquor selection in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. I don't know if they carry the brands you're interested in, but you could call them and ask: 800/524-2037, 304/776-2303.

Prepare to pack it in your checked luggage, as you can no longer carry high proof alcohol onboard. Check your carrier for details.

No carry on over proof alcohol? Even if it is part of ones duty free allowance? Seems odd seeing as how you can get just as soused on the regular 80 proof stuff.

My understanding regarding overproof rum is that it has nothing to do with its intoxication potential and everything to to with flamability issues - I don't believe you can bring the 151 proof back period.

That said, some rum makers are now making lower overproofs (an oxymoron if ever I saw one) in the range of 121.

I would definitely call your airlines or refer to their website before making a purchase.

If you can't find Jamaica's US$6 Wray and Nephew Overproof, bring in a bottle of Brazilian cachaca, same proof/sugarcane distilled, if smoother 'kickapoo' juice for caipirinhas, petit/ti punch, etc. Look for the PITU brand with the red crayfish on label.
