My understanding regarding overproof rum is that it has nothing to do with its intoxication potential and everything to to with flamability issues - I don't believe you can bring the 151 proof back period.
That said, some rum makers are now making lower overproofs (an oxymoron if ever I saw one) in the range of 121.
I would definitely call your airlines or refer to their website before making a purchase.

If you can't find Jamaica's US$6 Wray and Nephew Overproof, bring in a bottle of Brazilian cachaca, same proof/sugarcane distilled, if smoother 'kickapoo' juice for caipirinhas, petit/ti punch, etc. Look for the PITU brand with the red crayfish on label.
