rooms at Caneel Bay

Hi, We are going to Caneel Bay in December. Could someone tell me what location is best for an oceanview room. Can we request a certain room? Is there a bad location? I would appreciate some advice. Thanks, Sharon

IThe best location for ocean view is the point! Go for it! To me a bad location is the 2 story complex, looks like motel 8 to me, right across from busy Caneel Beach!

Thanks for the reply Penny. Maybe I did'nt make myself clear since I've never been to St. Johns. We are going to stay at the Caneel Bay Resort. I thought the resort had their own private beaches, and I had read other messages about the ideal rooms and thus my question.Sharon

Sharon:

Penny, in an unclear post, was referring the the oceanview rooms on "the point" between Caneel Beach and Paradise.

You really need to call the resort and have them fax you the room layout. That should enable you to make your room selection.

Personally, I like the location of the oceanview rooms off Turtle Bay.

Have fun!

Cottage Point is the area between Caneel Beach and Paradise Beach which are two of the beaches on the Caneel property. Penny is referring to the Caneel Beach rooms which are located right on the main beach I think. Turtle Bay is nice also but I agree with Penny that the rooms on the Point are preferable to Turtle Bay but there is more foliage and they are tucked into the hillside at TB. The kids club is located at Turtle Bay if that would make a difference with your choice. Caneel will not promise a certain location or room but will try to accomodate.

I stayed in the oceanview rooms across from Caneel Bay. I agree the building isn't the nicest looking but we were hardley ever in the room and we never noticed Caneel's main beach overly crowded. We used Scott beach the most -it is gorgeous and has great snorkeling (sea turtles, sting rays). The only rooms I wouldn't use would be Tennis Garden because they are far from the beaches on the property - although there is a shuttle on the property that deals with that. Have a great time!!

Thanks for the clarification! I did mean Cottage Point. The 2 story building I referred to is a let visual let down, compared to the more private areas at Caneel. Caneel Beach is the busiest beach, day trippers, kids and all! You can request a certain room, or area, and see what happens! I enjoy Scott, Turtle, Hawksnest, Paradise and Honeymoon! Cottage Point for oceanview and Turtle would be my choice!

What's the point if Caneel won't promise a certain location or room?

The point is they will TRY, and I have done this, and sometimes it works. They will give you a location, Scotts, Turtle, etc. It never hurts to asK!

We stayed in oceanview room on Caneel Beach in June and it was lovely. The beach was quiet and close, just a few steps from the room! It was also very convenient to the main pavillion for drinks, snacks, making reservations, etc.

Have fun!

We stayed in Turtle Bay room, it was just lovely. If you wish to avoid kids, the Scott Beach rooms are off limits to kids. Probably won't be many kids there in December anyway.
