Road to Negril

We were in Jamaica 6 or 7 years ago, stayed in Montego Bay but took a day trip to Negril. The road was horrific and took a couple of hours to get to Negril. How is the road now? Can it be maneuvered more quickly? Would consider going back and staying in Negril if travel from Montego Bay airport is quick. Anyone have any insight?

MoBay-Negril reachable 2 ways -- both
remarkably improved since your last trip 6-7 yeas ago. The B8 inland route
(turn left at Reading and head cross
island, then thru Sav to Negril) is new macadam, about 1.5 hours and scenic. The quicker 'speedway', boring, if fast, goes MoBay-Lucea-Negril in about an hour.

Its not a trip from "Hell" anymore...The ride is much nicer, takes about 1 1/2 or less depending on your driver.

Yup, it's a real high way now. Not much to see but fast. Even has shoulders.

I like the "back way" tiv describes best. But it's a little longer.

The road to negril is greatly improved with more work underway. See www.road2negril.com for more current information about the state of the highway.
