Recommendations for stingray city

As it's getting closer to vacation, more questions: who would you recommend for Stingray City, I've read a little about Capt. Dexter and Capt Marvin. Can we make reservations once we get there? We're staying at the Turtle Next Inn, planning to have a car and do alot! Thanks.

We used Captain Marvin's and they were great! We went on a Friday (when no cruise ships are in Port).Chester,Brandon and Paul from VIP were our guides. They were wonderful. I made reservations in advance at their website.

We were just there from May 10-16th and wish we were still there.

Have a great time!!I also recommend the Butterfly Farm and Turtle Farm.

For a nice quiet beach..make a day of it and go to Rum Point.

Stingray City and Rumpoint were our favorite parts of the vacation.

The Wharf was a nice place for dinner. We reserved a table by the water.

Capt. Marvins website is www.captainmarvins.com.

We went with Soto's in 2003 and had a great time. The had an on board videographer who made a DVD of our trip including beneath the water while we were snorkeling. It was great.

Whichever company you choose, I would recommend the full day with the stop to both Coral Gradens and the Barrier Reef before going to sting ray city.

On our trip with Capt. Marvin's..they also had a guy (Paul from VIP)who video taped our trip above and below the water.

I also recommend the trip with 3 stops..Coral Gardens,Barrier Reef and Stingray City.

I've been with both operators several times.

For a full day trip, you cannot do better than Captain Marvins. The lunch the staff and the stops are all wonderful.

For a half day trip I would always choose Dexter. Dexter is personable [a character actually] and he will 'engine' you out and sail you back in on his catamaran. He makes 3 stops, some operators of half day trips only do two.

Be sure to stop by the Port Authority site when making your reservations http://www.caymanport.com/schedule.htm to insure that you are going out on a no cruise ship day. Or a day with the least amount of ships in port.

We used Soto's one time last year, just to see what they had to offer, per another site, and were sorely disappointed, will never do that again. They suffer mightily by comparison.

Enjoy your trip!

We've only been once, so can't compare different operators, but we loved Capt. Dexter. He was particularly nice to my son, who is 8 and needed some help with his equipment. There's a nice picture of him with my son that you can see if you look at my post, GC photos-April'06. We also enjoyed the sail back in. We did only make two stops, though, not three as mentioned by someone else (Stingray City and reef).

We also stayed at the Turtle Nest Inn and LOVED it--so hope you have a great time! The hosts were wonderful and a great resource for advice on things to do (even though we'd researched in advance). You definitely need the car, as Boddentown is a bit out of the way. But it's a nice location because you're still not that far from Georgetown, and it's a shorter trip to go out to Rum Pt. and the East End from there. We also went to the Turtle Farm, Smith Cove (small cove with good snorkeling off the beach), 7MB (public beach at north end), and did the sub/semi-sub with my kids and enjoyed all. You can read my trip report for more details, if you're interested.

We loved the peacefulness of TNI and spent a lot of time just hanging around the pool there. Hope you have a great trip--when are you leaving? Please say hi to Marleine and Alain for us (from the Spencer/Friedls).

We always go with have a friend who lives thier.so can't say who 2 go with. But when is another question. Always go on a Sunday Morning. Most people in Church and no ships in port. Last time we went, we were the only people thier for about 2 hrs. It is really nice when the crowd on the sandbar is small. I know some operators work on Sunday morning. Just check around.
