Punta Cana/Seaweed

Looking at Punta Cana for winter 2003 trip. What is the story on the seaweed in the water? Any hotel locations better than others to avoid this problem if in fact it is a real issue? Looking for good water conditions. Thanks for any help.

I was there in late Feb. several years ago. I stayed at Natura. There was a lot of seaweed. They do an excellent job of cleaning the beach so that is not a problem. The water was somewhat cooler than I like, so I wasn't interested in swimming anyway. Yes I did experience seaweed.

We stayed at the Iberostar Dominicana (further north than Natura) and never saw a single seaweed in the water. Occasionally, a piece of it might wash up on shore from somewhere else....don't know where. The water was like a bathtub....very warm. Go to this website for more information:

I gone three times in Punta Cana: at Barcelo Bavaro Beach, Fiesta Palace and Iberostar Bavaro. I never saw seaweed in the water.

Kathy there is another thread titled Natura park, Punta Cana right now. (scroll down.) A person is also saying how there was a lot of seaweed on the beach. Could just be this location. I did walk down to Allegro and I also saw seaweed there too. It could be the time of year, or perhaps a storm could have created it when I was there or just that location.

There is seaweed at the bottom of the ocean just in front of the coral reef that is outside Natura Park and Sunscape Resorts. This is the reason is washes up on beach

Thanks for quick replies. Trying to decide on specific resort. Choices are too many. Have read debbiesdominican reviews multiple times. It's amazing what one person considers to be a wonderful hotel and another the complete opposite. We are not fussy travelers at all. Would like decent food, great pool and a nice beach. Trying to select Punta Cana hotel from choices at vacationtravelmart.com Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
