To be honest, you can have problems with hurricanes everywhere here in the hurricane belt. There is no way to predict anything at all, and you can't ALWAYS go by what the forecasters predict, either.

I can tell you that hurricanes are most prevelant this way in September, but can strike at any time during the season.

My suggestion would be to go, enjoy yourself, but stay aware of the news and weather. If a storm approaches, you would have ample time to leave the island, as long as you keep up to date with the news.

If you REALLY are unsure about staying in the more northern islands during hurricane season, you WOULD have less chance of a storm hitting while in the more southern islands such as Aruba.

Good luck and have fun.
We have been to Puerto Rico in August for the last eight years. We have had fantastic weather (lots of sun and breezes)...and torrential tropical rain. We have never had an actual hurricane. Summer is always a roll of the dice when you are going to the islands. As someone else mentioned, I would just keep abreast of the news and go with an attitude of enjoying a beautiful island of incredible variety.

We vacationed in Puerto Rico last August and had such a great time. It was sunny, hot, beautiful, exciting, relaxing, exotic, interesting and provided wonderful memories. If the heat doesn't bother you, then go and have a grand time whilst sipping your frothy pina colada!
