Place to stay in Turks & Caicos

Priorities are relaxation and access to beach. Which place would you reccomend in T&C. (Excluding an all inclusive or Parrot Cay). Thank you.

Have stayed at numerous resorts on Provo and our favoritee is Coral Gardens. One reason is the reef right off the beach. There are all kinds of places to stay in all price ranges depending on what you want. Most resorts are condo types with kitchens. The Sands and Ocean Club West are very nice. Sibonne is too. They have a one bedroom suite with kitchen and if you dont need a kitchen there are two new suites below the one with the kitchen that are very nice. Can't get any closer to the beach than this but the majority of resorts are beachfront. There is something in all price ranges. www.wherewhenhow.com the online magazine of the Turks and Caicos is a good source of info on Provo

We really enjoyed Coral Gardens thanks to Howard's suggestion. Most of the newer condo's are set back from the beach, unlike Coral Gardens, it's right in front of you and wow! I just wish it wasn't so difficult to get to from Philly. We had a horrid time getting there, got bumped in Atlanta, ended up traveling hours more to get there, lost the entire day. By the way, be careful using Delta, yikes, they are a mess. I will never fly them again after what they did to us.

Be sure wherever you stay that if you want a special dinner go to the Coyaba restaurant. It's very expensive but the food was exquisite. Luckily for us one dinner was included in our package. Should we had to pay for it ourselves, we would have ended up spending $250 for what we had at least.

We will go back someday but not on Delta. I wish one of the airlines would fly a direct route from Philly.

Hope wherever you stay you have a wonderful time.

Us Airways used to have a direct flight out if Philly to Provo on Sat but don't know if they still do. There is a daily direct flight out of Charlotte daily on US Air. Picking between USAir and Delta is probably picking between the lesser of two evils. Another alternative might be the Direct Flight out of JFK on American.

Thanks for your responses. (especially for the site Howard) We ended up booking beachfront at the Sibonne after reading many positive comments about it.

A couple of questions maybe someone can help us with.

We have never been to T&C. Any must sees?....we are contemplating renting a car for a day to see the island. Is it worth it? We know its really more of a "do nothing island", but we generally like to explore any island that we visit.

Aside from Hemmingways and Coyaba, what other restaurant do you recommend near Sibonne? Thanks a bunch!

If you rent a car, drive past the airport and take the road that goes up the south side of the Chalk Sound - some pretty photo ops of the Sound and its little islets.

For restaurants I would suggest Anacaona and Magnolia in addition to Coyaba. We were underwhelmed by Hemingways, but we seem to be in the minority.

Sue--Re restaurants--In order to save typing time at the top of the forums go to search all forums and type in HowardC and click search. It will bring up all my posts. Then click see more results and you will find a thread on Provo restaurant recommendations and my comments. Would recommend a car for more than one day. Not much on Provo is within walking distance of anything else. You can walk to Hemmingways at the Sands which is nice for lunch. On tuesday Hemmingways ahs a caribbean BBque with live music. The walk to Coyaba is about a half hour via the beach, Not sure I would do that at night and definitely wouldn't walk the road. You could walk the road to Ports of Call which is about a mile but there are few street lights and no sidewalks. Bring a flashlight. Danny Buoys an Irish Pub is also walkable. Food good not great. Think you'll like Sibonne. Sit at a table at the bar and have a drink and ask that Junior deliver it on his head. Quite a talent and Juniors a great guy.
