Photos from Havana and Vinales May 2013

Had another great trip to Cuba. Was there for May Day which was fabulous as you can photograph away that day--all of Revolution Square, the military (they pose for you). You can take photos of any place and anyone. It was great. With two friends we wandered through the tobacco fields (literally) and met some fabulous people who in in my photo album below. Sunsets, massive waves on the Malecon, kids, gorgeous teens, tobacco farmers. My best photographic journey yet. I'm heading back in six months and can't wait.

Here is the album from May 2013:

Oh my. These are stunning pictures! I can't remember. Was this a photography trip through National Geographic? Was this your friend Didi's first trip (back) to Cuba? That must have been thrilling for her and for you to have someone with you who had a close personal relationship with Cuba. I can see why you want to return. I think I'd like to visit and I'm so happy you posted these photos as we don't get that many travelers to Cuba here.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I just love street photography in Cuba. There isn't a better place anywhere for street photography.

Hi Sharona--No, this was not a Nat Geo trip. It was a small private photography trip through Lorne Resnick Photography www.lorneresnick.com If one loves photography, I would go with him I have been on two trips with Lorne. He knows all the nooks and crannies and is well connected. Very well run, small, fun trips.

Here are the photos from the first trip I did with Lorne in 2012. They are very different from the 2013 group: http://snips.ly/Cuba_2012

It was Didi's first trip--she was born in the US shortly after her parents left Cuba--she's 38 and a double boarded pediatric intensivist physician in Minneapolis . One couldn't help but think of what would have happened and what her life would be like had her parents stayed. As we met their old neighbors and visited her parent's apartment, church and schools, to say it was "bittersweet" for her was a huge understatement. Tears were flowing profusely the entire trip--my included.

I'm heading back again in February and hope to do just inside homes and the residents. We'll see : )

wow...Boston Harbor (Patricia), you're pix of Cuba are by far the most outstanding I have ever seen. Me,I'm a very rank amateur, but I'll share my photos with you only because you may be famiiar with some of the places. I should stick with my 1941 "Brownie"..
