Oyster Bay Beach resort or Caravanserai?
My husband and I want to go to St. Maarten next March. Oyster Bay and Caravanserai are our two choices in our timeshare book. Which has nicer accomadations and amenities? Which has nicer, bigger beach? Prettier views? Any info is appreciated.

Are you with RCI or II. I have never stayed at either resort but The Atrium is part of RCI. Marys Boon is part of II. As you are not getting any answers to your question, suggest you try www.traveltalkonline.com They have quite an active St. Martin Board.

I haven't stayed at either, but know the areas, so can offer a bit of opinion.
Caravanserai, in my opinion, is in a noisier/busier area since it's near the airport and the Maho Bay area.
Oyster Bay (I'm thinking that you mean Oyster Pond?) is more set away from the hustle and bustle and is therefore a quieter area.
They are both nice areas in their own right, it just depends on what you are looking for. The Maho area area has a nicer beach, in my opinion, and also has more nightlife. Oyster Pond is more secluded and quiet. You would also need a car if you stay in the Oyster Pond area.
Hope this helps somewhat. I also second the opinion of checking traveltalkonline.com

I stayed at Oyster Bay Beach Resort (in the Oyster Pond area)last October (2002). Although, I did not stay in a condo unit (I just had a room in the main building). Many of the condos were still under construction when I was there. From what I could see (which wasn't much, since I never went into any of the condos), they appeared nice. There is a small beach with chair and umbrella rentals and a couple a beachfront bar/restaurants. The complex has a nice pool and nightly entertainment. You definitely need a car. There's not much around (and only a few places within walking distance). If being a little secluded is what you're after, this place isn't bad. With a car, you can easily be in Phillipsburg or Marigot if you want shopping or restaurants. Also, Orient Beach on ther French side is not far and has many water activities.

Dear Clybon,
I realize the message you posted re: Oyster Bay Beach Resort is a bit old but, as someone who actually stayed at the resort, I wanted to ask you something. We are booked into a deluxe room and assume it is part of the original Oyster Pond Hostel. For a number of years we stayed at the Dawn Beach Hotel and would go over to Oyster Pond because it was so lovely. How did you find your room and the hotel?
Thanks for any info.

my husband and i are going to be staying at oyster bay beach resort for a week. we haven't been in st. maarten for 8 years and used to go to the dawn beach hotel which no longer exists. since we know the area and love its remoteness, we thought oyster bay would be a good choice. the truth is we knew it as a small lovely hotel with a fabulous french restaurant. i understand it now serves asian food and i've read not such great reviews of the restaurant. we used to go to the mini-club for their buffet and it was terrific. has anybody eaten there recently? also, we ate at labuerge gourmand (spelling is wrong) in grand case which was lovely. has anybody eaten there recently? i hope we have made the right choice in returning to st. maarten.
