oyster bay beach resort

i posted a message almost a month ago and got no response so i'm trying again. has anybody been to the oyster bay beach resort recently? my husband and i used to stay at the dawn beach hotel nearby and often went over to oyster pond because it was so lovely.
we are staying in one of their deluxe rooms.
i'm hoping we've made a good choice.

Try the message board traveltalkonline.com They have quite an active message board for St. Martin. I've gotten much better response in the last week about my questions planning for St. Martin

We stayed at Oyster Pond Beach Resort about three years ago for two weeks. Exactly what would you like to know. I will try to answer your questions if I can.

dear shirleyk,
we are staying in a deluxe room. i assume that's part of the "old" oyster pond hotel. is that where you stayed? i know they used to have a really fine restaurant on the premises.
how did you find the food? i realize that in 3 years many things have changed but i haven't been to st. maarten in about 8 years since we used to go to the dawn beach hotel. thanks for any insights you can give me.

We just returned. Oyster Bay Beach resort is a great choice. The Pool is beautiful,as is the location. The staff is friendly but do not provide enough info regarding restaurants and maps.
We had a one bedroom apt. and it was great. We overlooked the marina and were close to the lobby entrance. We had a washing machine and dryer and a full kitchen. Not all one bedrooms have a washer and dryer so check ahead.
Make sure to go to your 15 minute time share talk early in your visit so you can take advantage of the gift. We went to St Barts one day as a result. It was worth the day trip-bring a bathing suit.
As for restaurants, many were closed from early Sept-to Oct 15th. Try Mrs. B's on the beach for lunch and Mr. Busbys next door for dinner. Also the restaurant at the entrance to the resort for breakfast. We really enjoyed L'escalier and the Frigate for dinner. They are near Captain Olivers, which got poor reviews from all.
We also like Ric's and Tomato's(I forgot the exact name of this vegetarian restaurant). They are near Simpson Bay. Grand Case has many restaurant. We tried Bistro Carribes and it was good not great. We loved The Fish Bar in the complex near Orient Beach. Food is very expensive especially on the French Side.
If you want to call U.S get a phone card
at a gasoline station. You need a car on the island.
Have fun . It was a great choice.

We stayed in a one bedroom timeshare near the lobby. We had a washer and dryer in our unit, plus a complete kitchen, living room, bedroom and balcony. It sounds like you will be staying in the original property or the timeshare units have a lock-off efficiency, maybe they call that a deluxe room. Now they have added on many "timeshare" units and will probably try to sell you one. You will need a car to get around. St. Martin has many fine restaurants. We ate mostly on the French side, on the marina and in Grand Case. If you stayed at Dawn Beach Hotel years ago like us, you will remember the Beach and that is the closest beach to Oyster Bay Resort. Incidently, in case you don't know, Dawn Beach Hotel was washed away during a hurricane. I'm wondering if a new hotel has been built in its place. When we were there three years ago, you could rent chairs and umbrellas on the beach. The restaurant at Oyster Bay was very nice but you'll want to try other places, too. Also, try other beaches. Bay Rouge is very nice. Have a wonderful time.

thanks to everyone for responding. we are very familiar with st. maarten, in terms of the roads and restaurants. i hope we remember all the different routes we took. has anybody eaten at the "mini-club" in marigot? the buffets they had were great. i think it has a different name now, maybe Claude's. our package includes 2 days of a rental car but we need to extend it to 6 days? any car rental companies with good prices you could recommend?
anybody eaten at l'auberge gourmand in grand case? i remember it was pricey but the food was excellent. does robert still take you out to green cay in his little motor boat? thanks again for any info. you can give me. we haven't been back to st. maarten in 8 years so we're open to suggestions.
