Overnighting San Juan?

Looks like our next trip to Nevis will require an overnight stop in San Juan. Understand that the airport hotel (?) is not great...so, what alternatives can be suggested? Arriving mid-afternoon then early morning departure next day. Thanks, Richard.

Check out the following (all within 10 minutes of the airport):
Wyndham El San Juan
Intercontinental
Embassey Suites
Courtyard by Marriott
Holiday Inn Express
Hampton Inn
Water Club

There are literally scores more if you expand the distance to 20 or 30 minutes.

You are right - the airport hotel is not great, to say the least, unless they have renovated it. I read here that someone said it is like a comfortable jail! So true! Although I am not so sure about the comfortable part - I itched all night and could not sleep. I didn't even want to shower in that place but I had no other choice. Never, ever again! My husband promised me.

There are lots of hotels just minutes away, as Sunnyboy has said, and a few B& Bs or smaller hotels which have been mentioned here in the past. If I find the names, I will post here for you. When are you going?

Have a wonderful trip!

There's also a Ritz Carlton and a Howard Johnson's close to the airport. I believe Hyatt has two locations and Wyndham has one near Old San Juan (Sheraton had one but I believe it was recently sold to another major chain - sorry can't remember the name). If you do a google search for San Juan Hotels you'll find links to just about all of them.

Thanks Sunnyboy, Marianna and ATraveller. As usual, a fountain of Fodorite information. To all: Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. Cheers, Richard.

We ended up staying in San Juan because of weather and what a great night is was. Two American Airlines ticket agents were so helpful and explained that we should go to Old San Juan. If I didn't get stuck in Puerto Rico, I never would have gone there and I intend to go back. Old San Juan is absolutely great. Open air markets, music playing in the square, you can walk around safely and great restaurants. We meet a couple of told us when we come again to contact them and to visit one of the islands by ferry. It's easily accessible by cab and well worth the trip.

We stayed at the hotel that was adjacent to the airport because we received hotel vouchers. I'm sorry I don't remember the name but I'm sure you can find it if you look up San Juan Airport website You are right, we were not going to stay all night in our hotel room. It's worth the trip
