Try Pamelas at Numero Uno in Ocean Park, Half way between the airport and old San Juan. Ask for a table on the beach. Excelent food
In Vieques try Blue Macaw at Inn on the Blue Horizon in Esperanza. Also Chez Shack, Bayaonda and Cafe Meada Luna--Tapas sized portions but very good. For steak try Island House restaurant at Crow's Nest. Except for Blue Macaw restaurants aren't fancy but very good food.

I want to strongly agree with some of HowardC's suggestions. Pamela's in Ocean Park is very very good, though quite expensive. In old San Juan, you can sample excellent nouveau Puerto Rican cuisine at Baru.

Howard also has recommended some of my favorites in Vieques. My top pick is Bayaonda, a little restaurant owned by Wanda and Gustavo that produces superb meals. The Blue Macaw also produces great food and is located in the Inn on the Blue Horizon overlooking the Caribbean. Go to the beautiful Blu Bar at the Inn for a drink beforehand. Chez Shack produces food from a grill and is located in the middle of the island in the woods. As of last week, it was closed, however, because the chef had been lured back to Boston. For breakfast or lunch, go to Cafe Mamasonga and say hello to Ute and Michael. I don't agree with Howard's recommendation of Cafe Media Luna. As he says, the portions are tapas sized, but the prices match those for regular meals elsewhere. Most people I know who go there are disappointed. Finally, be aware that some of the restaurants close during the weekdays on Vieques during the summer.

Viequense~You seem to be very familiar with Vieques. My husband & I are doing a short post cruise stay in PR on Aug. 1-3, 2004. We actually will have the afternoon of the first, a whole day the 2, & not much time morning of the third. I am very interested in seeing a biobay. Am wondering if we have time to go to vieques? I understand the ferries do not stay late enough to see the luminiscent bay, could you recommend another way to see this? We are staying at the Wyndham Condado Plaza, will we be far from Fajardo? Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Havi2000: You need to stay overnight to see the biobay on Vieques, since there is no way by sea or air to get back to the main island in the late evening.

It's about an hour and one-half drive from San Juan to Fajardo if there are no traffic problems. There are lots of traffic lights along the way.

If you did want to go to Vieques, it's quite easy to fly there from the Isla Grande airport in San Juan. Don't fly from the main international airport (Luis Munoz) because roundtrip flights are 50 percent more expensive out of there as compared to Isla Grande and Isla Grande is closer to your hotel in Condado anyway. Vieques Air Link and MN Aviation both fly out of Isla Grande for $90 to $100 roundtrip per person. See the website www.enchanted-isle.com for more information about the air carriers and more generally about Vieques.

Have a great trip.
