I think it depends on what you like to do. If you're content to sit at your resort and take a walk occasionally, a taxi would probably work. Taxis are everywhere, but can get expensive depending on how much traveling you're planning. Most drivers will gladly do tours for a fee. We have always rented a car and find the island very easy to navigate. The south coast, however, has been under some construction so detours are everywhere. It's a larger island, so there is much to see. The Atlantic side of the island is so much different than the Caribbean. I believe we paid approximately $375.00 US for a one week rental. Most resorts can handle making contact with a reputable firm.

We've stayed at Bougainvillea Beach several times -- great resort, beautiful accommodations. Nice swim up bar in the free form pool. You should enjoy it. Last time (in November) lots of road construction (sewer project) in the area with detours from the resort making it take lots longer to get places

Good car rental company is Stoutes. We've rented from them since 1986 -- always new cars, good quality.
Find them on the web at: http://www.stoutescar.com
Prices run about $350 for a week. Cars are costly on most islands.
