Nassau Marriott Resort

Has anyone stayed here? Would you recommend it? How far is it to the downtown area of Nassau? Any advice on Nassau would be great!

We stayed at Marriott last March. This place is a dump. Marriott should be ashamed to have their name associated with this disaster. We were supposed to stay there five nights and stayed only one. We could not get out fast enough. We had two connecting rooms. Then rooms are musty, musty. The carpets and curtains are stained. The bedding, towels and linens are torn, stained, thin. The beds are sagging. The ceiling stuff was peeling and the paint on the walls was dirty. There was only a shower curtain liner and the tub had major rust stains. The lamps and furniture were from 1960. The pool was dirty. This place needs to be renovated. There is no beach - you have to go to the Radisson next door. I would not let my dog stay there. The only plus was the friendly staff. I feel sorry that they have to work there. Stay at the British Colonial Hilton instead.
We had a corner suite in the H tower. It had an incredible ocean view with a large balcony. The room itself could have used a little updating. The couch had a musty smell, and there was some mildew in the bathroom, but mattress on the king-sized bed was good, and the bathroom had double sinks and a large jetted tub. For the exorbitant amount you're paying for the Marriott, it's not worth it.
The Marriot is FULL of drunken teenagers and BADLY in need of a facelift. Our room had a great view of the ocean and was quiet but not what you would expect of a Marriot by any means. The bathroom was clean but there were water stains on the ceiling and mildew stains on the tiles. Carnival used to own the Marriot and it shows (the bathrooms and halls smell funky)!! It is a low budget hotel (think a very old Motel 6 at resort price) The food in Nassau & Paradise Island was very disappointing and overpriced. The hotel staff and restaurant staff all looked miserable and it showed in their attitude. Good luck getting a drink in the Casino....

The beach in front of the Nassau Beach Hotel is lovely (just ignore the hair braiders/jet ski vendors and tropical drink guy).

Cafe Johnnie Canoe is really enjoyable. You catch the number 10 bus to get to Nassau and it is basically the same as a cab but much less expensive. After talking to a few locals (a cab driver and a waitress) we got the impression that Nassau isn't terribly safe at night so you might be best to stick to Cable beach or Paradise Island.

We had a nice time relaxing together but are unlikely to return to the Bahamas and DEFINATELY NOT to the MarriROT!

I would echo the sentiments of the previous posters. I thought Marriott was a real run-down place. It needs to be closed and completely renovated. Even the pool had a large hole in the bottom from wear and needs to be fixed. Avoid this place until it is overhauled.
