Having visited all of the islands of the Caribbean many times, I disagree with Jackies views on Puerto Rico.I do agree with her about the problem with stray dogs in Puerto Rico, it's cultural. At least the Humane Society is beginning to work on the problem. Are as concerned about the homeless here? <BR>The attitude towards animals is similar in most Latin countries. And yes road sigs in the mountain roads are non-existent. But I don't agree with the beaches. Puerto Rico has as many great, and beautiful beaches as any island in the Caribbean. If you incorporate their offshore islands of Culebra and Vieques, some of the absolute best. You just have to know where to go. It's a pretty big island.

For those of you who were disappointed with Cuba, I think I understand why. You didn't really go to Cuba, You merely went to a tourist trap resort. Next time try staying in a casa particular and eating at paladares. You will get better service, better food and have a better understanding of what the REAL Cuba is like. If all you are looking for is a big hotel with a beach, try Hawaii. It's cheap (on a package) and they all speak english there.

if you desire incessant drug panderers hounding you to buy drugs, you might actually enjoy Jamaica. In Negril, I wasn't able to sit on the beach for over 5 minutes without somebody very aggressively trying to sell me anything and everything. Prostitutes would run on the beach, too. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to be able to get some weed on vacation, but this is just way too much. The towns were also really scary. Never will I return.

I was really surprised when I read all the negative responses about Jamaica. We went last summer for the first time and rented a villa in the Runaway Bay area. The vacation was wonderful, we have already booked for next summer. We went into Ocho Rios for shopping and although the vendors were aggressive, they responded to no thanks. The food was wonderful and the people gracious.

I too don't understand all the bad feelings towards Jamaica. I am a 44 yof who travels with my best friend (female same age). We have been to Ocho, Montego Bay and Negril (heaven on earth) and have never felt unsafe or threatened. Matter of fact the Jamaican people were so kind and giving that being true americans, we were suspicious of them! I have been to many Carribean islands and for right now I'll keep going back to Negril over and over and over........

I've been to Jamaica twice and must admit it's one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. My first trip was a bad experience with the natives that soured the trip.I returned for a second time figuring the first trip was a unusual occurance but after being followed into the men's room at a mountain top garden overlooking Ocho Rios and being harassed/threatened to buy pot while standing at the urinal I've had enough of Jamaica. Two strikes and your out in my ball game !!!

Jamaica. We went there twice and will never go again. Both times we stayed at Grand Lido Negril. We ventured out of the all-inclusive our second trip to see Negril. We were harassed at the straw market to the point where we felt some danger. We felt a general uneasiness the whole time we were there. Not a relaxing vacation.
