Mosquitos in Grand Cayman

We will be going to the island in October, are there a lot of bugs? Especially mosquitos around at that time? Should we bring our own bug spray?

Thanks in advance for your responses. We are starting to get to the point where we think about the upcoming trip constantly.

Hello,

Mosquitos aren't that bad - at least from what I remember.... I vacationed there twice and then lived & worked there for a year... but then again, bugs don't seem to bother me. I think you'll be fine. Just to be safe though bring a small can in case you do come across some.

I don't remember bugs of any kind as a problem though my wife disliked the gecko's that scurried around.

funny - I remember the geckos... they aren't that bad at all - they were almsot funny - they scurried away the moment you came within three feet of them.... but then, if you're not used to them....

I don't recall a single mosquito bite.

we stay on the north side of the island, away from 7 mile beach, and the mosquitos are usually ferocious on the north side. Not sure if it's different on 7 mile beach or not. One tip: toothpaste, rubbed onto to NEW mosquito bites, will get rid of them. They are usually gone by morning. They have to be new bites, though, older bites it doesn't seem to work. Maybe someone knows why this works, I am not sure of the chemistry behind it?
