I too was thinking about doing a split vacation between USVIs and the BVIs. I was looking at different places on Tortola. I was curious about Lighthouse Villas. Do the rooms offer a/c? If so how far away are restaurants, etc. Did you rent a car? Also what do you think about Long Bay Resort? Also some of their villas look amazing but a little too pricey. I keep hearing flip/flop reviews about this place. Any comments? I have checked out travelonline.com but I just figure I would check out fodorites opinions. Thanks! Susan

Hi Susan. We recently returned from doing what you were thinking of. (Splitting a vacay between USVI's/BVI's. (I have a trip report on here somewhere
Lighthouse does have A/C and is VERY close - within easy walking distance - to everything on Cane Garden Bay. There are four or good restaurants to choose from, but if you want anything gourmet, you will have to take a cab or drive.
LHV is only a few years old, very clean and the proprietress, Malcia, is very friendly.
We did rent a car to travel to other parts of the island.
We stayed at Long Bay quite awhile ago - maybe 8 or 9 years - and would only stay there again if the room rates made it worthwhile. (imho, it's overpriced for the quality, but we stayed in the beachfront rooms and were very pleased). If you could get a great deal on your room rate, it's a nice place. We found the food at the rest. to be good and the BF rooms had a huge tiled bathroom where we could spread out all of our dive equipment to dry.

Wow, thank you Diana for so much info! Hmmm now I have to think about the Lighthouse Villas or LB. In your opinion, which one had the nicer setting/beach area? I will do a search on here though to find your trip report. Thanks again for your help, Susan

Susan, I've topped the trip reports for you. You're welcome.
LB has a better beach because LHV is across the street from the beach, but Cane Garden Bay is very nice.
If I had to pick between the two, here would be my comparison:
For a short stay of 2 or 3 days - LHV. (Close to everything, don't need a car.)
For a long stay 5 days or a week - LB. (More of a resort feel, better amenities, good food, decent beach.)
Another god choice there is the Sugar Mill - kind a combination of both with excellent food and a lot of charm.
Have fun!
