Good Luck, as that is notoriously the most expensive travel week of the entire year!

Sorry I don't have a specific answer, but you might try for any resort that newly opened in 2002--especially if it missed being advertised in this year's brochures. We got a decent (although not cheap) deal that way to the Riu Tropical Bay in Negril last Christmas.

If it is at all possible to wait till after Jan.1 you can do better. As in right after. I have gotten some great deals at that time. But it needs to be right after New years. People are tired from the Holidays, aren't ready to travel as of yet.

If you want somewhere sunny and warm how about the Western Caribbean, Playa Del Carmen. They have beautiful beaches and have resorts in tropical settings and have a town for shopping within a 20 minute walk. The all inclusive resorts seem to have the best prices of all the islands.

Sue, there are some deals out there right now, but you would need to book asap. Call a travel agent in your area and ask about any package deals that might be available. Air fare that time of the year is high but sometimes you can get a good deal with hotel and airfare.

How about Freeport or Nassau? Our Lucaya on Freeport is fairly new and has gotten some decent reviews, and the airfare there is very reasonable.

Also try some of the online agencies like www.libertytravel.com.

Good luck on your trip.

If you can get MLT charters out of Detroit than suggest you check Negril
Jamaica--Samsara Hotel
Else fly to Cancun and go to Isla Mujeres. Either place is the least expensive that we know of.
Visit isla-mujeres.net
Dan

Cancun is where we chose because it had the best deal. We are staying at the Marriott Casa Magna there.

We stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun. It is a great hotel, with a nice beach in front. I loved this hotel. Enjoy. Great choice.

Why the caribbean - try Puerto Vallarta on the pacific side of Mexico or even Scottsdale in Arizona (hot and sunny with beautiful hotels)

We've been to St. Kitts that time of year and absolutely love it. The hotel prices were no higher than normal and we just found out you can catch a charter out of Windsor, Ontario (just across from Detroit) at a really great price! We are really excited! The dollars are Canadian so you save a lot of money. The charter company is Conquest - www.conquestvacations.com. If you enjoy hiking, snorkeling, seeing a few historic sites such as Brimstone Hill Fortress, built in the 1700s and just having a lovely laid back vacation, its a great place. We stayed at Timothy Beach and thoroughly enjoyed it, but there are plenty of other choices if you don't care about being on the Caribbean.

Jane

Sue,

Aren't the best deals in the DR right now? If you want a nice hotel, with great beaches and blue water, the prices on all-inclusives in the DR can't be beat.

Ort you can cut the price of your Caribbean vacation in half by NOT going all-inclusive. Instead, get a medium to low priced room. Getting a room with a fridge can save you alot of $$ on coke's and drinks. If you can find a room with a little kitchen, you can even save more by taking a trip to the local grocery store. You will probably still be able to find cheaper rooms in the Caribbean (while many of the AI's are sold out by now). I've stayed at the $250 per night all-inclusives, and the $30 per night rooms - either way you have fun (who stays in their room all day anyways

Good Luck,
Eric

The problem with booking Holiday travel late is that yes you'll find a hotel but air will not be available.
