Looking for a cheap romantic getaway

I'm looking for a non-touristy spot, on the beach, resembles paradise, cute tropical looking hotel, clean, but most important, cheap. Somewhere near snorkeling and some good hiking is preferred..

Look into Grenada, although airfare isn't cheap the island is one of the lesser priced in the carrribean and good hiking and snorkeling are available. When we visited we stayed at Secret Harbor which was great but not on the beach but we met a couple staying at the Mariposa which loved it. It is brightly colored (i.e. tropical), on a great beach (morne rouge) and it has kitchenettes.

don't think I've ever heard the words Romantic, cheap & kitchenette all used in the same breath.

too bad don juan, some of my most romantic memories are of times when my husband and I didn't have the money for a luxury property but had a marvelous time enjoying each others company and the beautiful scenery

Tracey, look at the following website:
http://www.calypsocalypso.com
It features a small cottage on the island of Eleuthera, only $700-900/week. Two years ago, when my husband and I wanted to do exactly what you're doing, we chose this beachfront place. It was incredibly romantic, we didn't see another soul for five days. Eleuthera is in the Bahamas, cheaper airfare than the rest of the Carib, and you'll be there by noon from east coast cities. the house came complete with a two-man kayak and fruit and flower gardens ripe for the pickin'! We snorkeled right off the beach in front of the house, and there are short hiking trails right on the property.

I was also going to suggest the Bahamas out islands. There are so many smaller palces to stay there that are out of the way, beautiful beaches, private and tropical, lots to explore and inexpensive. To also keep prices down, you can take the Fast Ferry over from Grand Bahamas - will save on airfare.

It's not the cost it's the use of the word cheap. No matter how you phrase it Cheap and romantic don't go together. It needn't cost a dime to be romantic but I still wouldn't call it Cheap.

Tracey,
Really. Cheap and romantic shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

Check out El Dorado Resort and Spa near Tulum.
I don't know what you consider cheap, but this hotel is private on a beautiful beach (you have to walk about 150 yards to a swimable beach).
When pricing Packages for my clients Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are almost always the Lowest Price Vacation for the Best Value.

Gosh! some people really get upset don't they? Maybe "inexpensive" would be a better word but some of the least expensive vacations were the most romantic and fun! Since you didn't mention a budget range, hard to tell what is inexpensive for you. There are wonderful little B&B's, campsites and inexpensive accomodations throughout the Caribbean. Where are you traveling from since that also is a factor with flight costs?
