Lodging in Ocho Rios

Going for first visit to Jamaica. Meeting up with friends at Sans Souci, but prior to that we want to be on our own and explore the area. Any suggestions on where to stay? Just a clean, convenient place - don't plan to spend much time, just to sleep. Thanks so much for any and all suggestions of where to stay and what we should see would be appreciated as well.

Check out Te Moana cottage on the oceanfront, run by Harmony Hall (google search Harmony Hall, a top notch gallery just outside Ochi with a good restaurant called Toscanini. Rates are good value -- and you get privacy, oceanfront, quirky character -- and even chef service, if you want. Along with Tensing Pen and Horizon, the property was also just profiled in the Jan-Feb issue of AIR JAMAICA's 'Skywritings' inflight magazine

Thanks for the replies thus far. More questions. We were thinking more of being where we could walk and explore and try local eateries, therefore were not thinking of an AL. How much hassle would it be to get to town from Te Moana? We are really looking for a nice budget place. Has anyone stayed at CRANE RIDGE?

Thanks again for your help.

A car/driver can probably be arranged for you for Te Moana. Being out of the center of Ochie which really isn't a 'walking town' and has few charms found outside the gated hotel properties might be better than just finding a room in-town. Ask the owners at Harmony Hall what they can set up for you...

There is now a second cottage at Te Moana. The owners of Harmony Hall are very good about responding to e-mails.
