Sorry to disappoint you Sidney, but I live and work in Washington DC and have no connection to any travel-related business. My enthusiasm for Ladera stems only from having stayed there & had a good experience, nothing more, and I have been honest in my posts and in my answers to peoples' questions about the fact that it is NOT for everyone -- anyone with a phobia of little lizards or anyone uncomfortable with the "open-air" aspect at Ladera would definitely not be happy there. People who need beachfront accommodations with marble bathrooms or luxurious, elaborate decor should look elsewhere too. I'll post trip reports when I get back from Hawaii in October and Mexico in November too, and if I enjoy any of those places I'm sure someone will accuse me of "advertising" too, but that's their problem, not mine. The day people stop posting positive reviews of their travels because they don't want to be accused of "advertising" is the day this site ceases to be useful to others.

Lisa:
Please ignore Sidney's statement and continue your involvement on this forum. Because of your reports (and others) my husband and I decided to stay in Ladera and Anse Chastanet (I have some doubts about AC right now). Also we are planning our trip to Costa Rica and considering Villa Caletas, Lapas Rios, and Vista del Valle. Sidney do you think that Lisa also works for a number of places in Costa Rica?

Always a danger that just because you really like a place, people will become suspicious. I have had the same problem due to my enthusiasm for Tortola in the BVI and a certain resort there.
I can sympathize a bit with Sidney, though. There ARE so many rip-offs on the internet that it's hard to not be suspicious anymore. I have to say that Fodors seems to have stayed free of that type of deceptive posting.
Since I'm on this kick let me add that another plus at Fodors is that it attracts persons who can actually compose a sentence and don't use cyberslang and profanity in every sentence. A number of sites seem to attract only people with the mentality and vocabulary of an adolescent boy.

Lisa

I just want to say how deeply appreciative I am for the trip report and comments. My fiancee and I are booked at Ladera for our honeymoon next month. When I too love a place I just rave about it too which I guess in a way is advertising. I just want people to enjoy the places I love if it is the right kind of place for them. I too am honest if I don't like a place. I am looking forard to your hawaii trip report.

Looks like you've got the majority of support, Lisa. Keep the great trip reports coming. To everyone else, don't let this discourage you from posting a report of your own. That's what this site is all about. The more good information a traveler can get to make the best decision for them, the better.

Sidney,

I initially wondered about Lisa too when I read all the Ladera trip reports. It seemed too good to be true. Well, having recently returned, I have to say (with no offense meant toward Lisa) that her reports don't and couldn't do the place justice. We took many pictures and they are insufficient representations too. You are surrounded by indescribably stunning views. How can words or pictures capture that? Not to mention the staff, it was sad to leave some of them. The executive chef even addresses each table at dinner personally to enquire about the meal (at least he did while we were there-he spends half the year in London). Obviously, I am an addict but the place seemed to have its share. Everyone we talked to (and we spoke to many guests) agreed that no one would believe them. It has to be experienced firsthand. Thank you, Lisa, for all your help. You have good taste. I intend to follow your future trip reports.

I went to Ladera on my 15th anniversary last year. I loved Ladera and St. Lucia so much that I regularly read this forum and periodically post messages. My wife and I can't wait to sometime go back and stay again at Ladera.

I understand Lisa's enthusiasm about it. One shouldn't comment unless they have have stayed there.

I am trying to find a nice hotel for our stay in St. Lucia Feb/March 2001. My wife and I, with three other couples are looking forward to this trip. We went to Aruba in Feb/March 2000 and had a great time. We have heard about a few resorts (Anse Chastenet, Jalousie Plantation, Rendezvous, Sandals Halcyon and recently about Ladera Resort) Any comments, anyone who has stayed at all or multiple of these? Which did you prefer? Ladera sounds very nice - any security problems with the "open room" - the other BBS that I just visited had a trip report regarding a very bad experience there (they were beaten and robbed at 3am in their room) I now you can't always believe what you read and people have all kind of likes and dislikes - just looking for some good, candid responses and direction. My vacations, in the past, were few and far between - so I like to make the best choice whenever possible. thanks in advance for your help.
