The most expensive islands are often those destinations that have a high standard of living, do not have a high crime issue, and the overall quality of the product is good, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Aruba are the most expensive mass tourism destinations. Least expensive, Cuba, Haiti, Punta Cana Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Isla Margarita mainly countries that are not overwhelmed with American tourists but by Europeans.

a knwledgable traveler would not put Aruba, Bermuda and the Caymans in the same catagory for budgeting. There is no way that Bermuda and Aruba are in any way comparable. You can get whole weeks with air at some places in Aruba for the one night in Bermuda.

Great suggestions so far...just wanted to add that Nassau, if you're starting from the east coast of the USA, is often less expensive in airfare than other islands. This factor can offset the fact that accommodations/food are not cheap in the Bahamas (think starting at close to $100/night). However, if you start from elsewhere, I understand Jamaica, DR are overall most affordable.

Overall ,I would say DR and the Cancun,Mayan Riviera areas of Mexico are the cheapest ones to go to from USA .Bermuda is very expensive once you're there, but you do find some all-inclusives and that helps, also from Wash DC ,we can get flights there sometimes for under $200. round trip !

I stayed at the Radisson in Aruba in early September for a lot less than I saw what comparable hotels at most other islands were charging. And the the airfare deal I got was the cheapest to almost any of the caribbean islands.

If you are savvy enough to locate some of the great deals that are out there, then you can go to almost any island you want without breaking the bank.
