Late Start: Best Options
We are looking to take a relaxing week long break over Christmas. Our criteria are places that are not a tourist hub, nice beaches and some nature side trips. We would be fine with places where English, Spanish and French are spoken. We would fly out from the DC area using frequent flyer mileage. It's been a bit of a challenge figuring out which places would be best options at this time since the opportunities seem to be few and far between. Are there any viable Caribbean islands options ? My initial list was Grenada, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Belize ? Should I focus my efforts on PR and Belize instead ? Any all feedback would be real welcome. Thanks all !!

You haven’t given us much to go on, there are dozens upon dozens of destinations you can reach from DC that are “not tourist hubs, have nice beaches and access to have nice beach’s and nature side trips.
If you are using FF miles you’ll first have to determine which islands your airline of choice flies to from DC as that will limit your choices. If you are using “points” from a credit card to get your airline ticket that will open up many more options. Next you’ll have to decide whether you want a destination you can reach non-stop from DC or if you are willing to take one or more connecting flights and/ or ferries to reach your final destination. Keep in mind that when traveling over the Christmas holidays, FF seats to some destinations may not be available or are often at a high premium and many resorts have minimum stay requirements so tou’ll Have to check that on your own as there is no way any of the contributors here will know hotel/resort availability.
With all that in mind some destinations that come closest to filling your limited list of requirements are:
Belize
Costa Rica
Roatan
St. Lucia
Grenada
St. Vincent
Dominica (still recovering from recent hurricanes)
