Kids' airfare help!

My fiance and I are getting married early next dec in Grand Cayman and will be using frequent flier miles. So, our airfare is not an issue. But we are bringing his 2 children down for a few days and will be paying for their tickets out of pocket. How much should expect this to be? They will be accompanied by an adult. But if they do for some reason need to fly down or back alonr, how much more does that add to the fare?

I assume by waiting until Fall specials come out in the summer, we will get a better deal. I hope so because when I just checked, rates were $600 per person! But then I run the risk of them not being on the same flight as us or another adult guest.

Please advise...

Before booking for your kids, check with the airlines about unaccompanied children traveling internationally.
Quite a few airlines have stopped this service, both US and internationally. I would check with several airlines before making any committments.
You may also want to check immigration if you are planning on having your children arrive unescorted.
Also, do NOT go by what is posted on the websites. I've found that some airline information is outdated. Just never got updated.

I know that USAir is one airline I have found that offers children's airfare to the Caribbean with one paying adult. The child's fare is 25% less. You only get this by calling them directly. So you will save money if you match them with a paying adult. Or, if you have two frequent flyer tickets and two children, use the freq. flyers for one adult and one child and pay for one adult so you can save 25% on the other child. Yes, the fares should drop. I purchased the tickets for my family of four (doing the freq flyer adult/child deal for half of us) in May for a November trip and I ended reticketing because the price dropped so much. By being willing to accept USAir vouchers in lieu of cash I did not have to pay the penalty. Of course, things could have changed so be sure and check.

IF you have alot of people going down with you, I would call either a travel agent or the travel desk of the chosen airline and see if you can get a group rate for all your guests. I have planned several trips for large groups and the airline is more than willing to work with you on groups traveling.

Also check with a local travel agent as sometimes they can get good package deals for groups as well.

I agree I would not plan on the kids being able to travel alone, not in today's world. Also if the mother is not traveling with them you will have to have a letter with both parents signatures allowing the child to travel to an international locale and it must be notarized. Birth certificates and/or passports will also be needed.
And I would plan way in advance for this stuff, as it can take some time.

Have a great time and enjoy your trip.
Airlines do vary with unaccompanied minor fees and regulations. Most won't accept children flying alone if there is a connection, especially internationally, or it's the last flight out. Early December is still before the holiday rush and tickets won't be through the roof then but it is hard to tell where the prices are gonna go and when (oil/gas prices and USAir bancruptcy).
