It truly is a day trip - plan on spending the emtire day....when we stayed at La Romana it took almost an hour and a half by bud to Santo Domingo. From Punta Cana it is even further. We were there last year, and tour busses were picking people up at our resort adn 6 a.m. and not returning them until amost 7 p.m. If you do not mind the long bus trip (guesstimating 2+ hours), Santo Domingo has lots of interesting sites to see......

Ask if you will get a chance to go into the Mercado or the Cathederal....from what I understand your on the bus most of the time.. S.D. is a wonderful city to explore and skirt around the area..ask if you will be allowed to go to the home of Columbus's son's palace. We have stayed in S.D. many years ago...three times and it's an exciting city..not for the feint of heart..lol

Spend a day at Manati Park, but DO NOT swim with the dolphins..this particular park has the worst reputation for the death and health of the dolphins. But it is a charming place to spend an afternoon..We found the staff absolutley charming and anxious to please..there is a horse show which we missed last time and a parrot show...which was cute..and we will be back this year..

When my husband and myself were in PC we did the bus trip into DR. We went through Apple. It is a long day trip as people have said but it was worth the trip. There is quite a bit of history to be seen. We did the Columbus tour of the home, shopping, stopped for an o.k. lunch. Meandered with the locals. I would recommend it if you want to get out of the resort for the day. We are active people, and 7 days, just on the beach was a bit much. A day of sightseeing broke up the week.
