Just returned from Half Moon Bay
My husband and I just returned Sunday night from 5 days/4 nights at Half Moon Bay Golf & Beach Club just outside of Montego Bay ... and we loved it!

The resort is absolutely beautiful and really has a lot of charm. I didn't feel like we were staying at just another hotel in Florida.

Upon checking in, we were upgraded from a superior room to a huge suite with our own little pool just steps from our front door and the ocean just beyond that. It was magical.

One word of warning ... this IS an older resort ... so if you're looking for brand new rooms, the Ritz Carlton down the street might be a better choice. Personally, I did not mind the few imperfections our room had (chipped tile, etc.) because as whole, the resort was just so beautiful.

Also, we had a WONDERFUL and very romantic dinner at The Sugar Mill ... one of the restaurants owned by Half Moon.

If anyone has any questions for me about this resort I'd be happy to answer them.

P.S. We saw Heidi Klum (the supermodel) twice while we were there and found out that Queen Elizabeth had stayed in one of the villas there just a week before!

I am getting ready to book a room at HMB for my husband and I. We would like a room where we can overlook the ocean - and very close to the beach. What type of room would you recommend? Also, did you opt for an inclusive plan? Did you book directly through the resort or through an agent? I don't want to pay rack rates if I don't have to.

Amy;

I always book directly with the property in order to establish a relationship with the front office. Learn who's who and then start to compliment(brown-nose) and .....finally ask for special care. I dont mind paying a bit more IF I can get what I want from the property. When I was at Half Moon last year we had a wonderful room directly on Half Moon Beach. We were on the 2nd floor and loved it. It could not have been more than 20 steps to the sand. I believe it was a "superior" room and the building was located all the way down to the west as far as you could be.(sorry dont know the number) Have fun! It's a great property. PS.....don't do an all inclusive.

My husband & I have been thinking about HMB & have heard so many people raving about it that I can't wait to go. However, we would like to take our teenage daughter & one of her friends, but don't know if HMB would be too boring for them. Had also thought of the Ritz. Anything but an all-inclusive resort. Do you think 2 teenage girls would enjoy a property like this? All they want to do is sunbathe, read & eat great food, just like my husband & I do. Any input would really help!

Amy;

If indeed the girls would be happy just relaxing, reading and sun worshiping......they'll really like HMB.
Actually there really is a lot to do without even leaving the property.(though it's so large, you feel like you are in a city unto itself) There's horseback riding, golf, mini golf, tennis, shopping, bike riding and several other things too. The nice thing about it, is that you really wont have to feel like you have to watch them that closely as the resort property is secure and very user friendly. It's an older property and not glitzy but classy! Have fun!!

We are trying to make a decison on Half Moon or Grand Lido Sans Souci. We are really considering Half Moon, but we heard that there are no nightly entertainment. We don't need a lot as we are going to relax (get away from the kids), but we would like to maybe dance to some live raggae or something once or twice.
Thanks for any f/b.

Hi Mike- both are very nice, have you looked into Beaches Royal Plantation? I ask because it's in Ocho Rios like San Souci and it's small, very upscale and rivals the other 2 you mentioned but will give you priveleges to visit the other Beaches for the very rocking Friday night beach party and all the other Sandals while the guests at those places cannot visit Royal Plantation. This way you'll have peace, pampering and lots of entertainment when you want it. Enjoy.

Thanks for the update Lisa. Actually Beeches Royal Plantation was out 3rd choice. We kinda ruled it out because the cost was more than Half Moon and then I read a lot (about 7) of trip reports where people mentioned that they received people who were not abiding by the rules (wearing shorts to the jacket required restaurants, loud party animals, etc.). When they asked the front desk what was going on they were told that Sandal's were overbook so they had to send people to BRP. This is a good thought though.
